more thinking out loud

only in colorado do children wear jeans and fleece and a jacket to vacation bible school.

why is it 48 degrees outside. and where, oh where is the sun?

did you know i'm married to the prophet elijah? yep. and yesterday i was married to the apostle paul. john is quite the vbs dramatist. is dramatist a word? if it's not, it should be. anyway, the girls said he did a great job as both paul and elijah.

oh, and they filmed me for some vbs promo stuff yesterday. i was supposed to say, "i can't wait to tell my friends about jesus" but they gave that line to someone else and i just had to smile while sarah gushed over the craft activity.

one time at chick-fil-a this lady from focus on the family interviewed me for some radio spot about parenting and discipline. i never listen to focus on the family stuff so i don't know if they used my interview or not. it was a year or two ago.

i do like chick-fil-a though, but i always scout it out when i go there now and make sure that lady with the microphone doesn't corner me.

we ate at chick-fil-a yesterday. so yummy.

we're total junk food junkies this week. the kids ate at mcdonald's for lunch today, and being the nice mom i am, i let them eat inside the play area. and i was totally grossed out at the icky floor and the black stuff on the bottoms of all those kids bare feet. gag.

even grosser was the kid who picked up abbey's croc and started chewing on it. *gag*

the mom took it away, but then the kid spilled her drink in abbey's croc. abbey cried. we left. she cried some more, and now her crocs are in the washing machine.

we're total library geeks. we've already been twice this week.

today we went to the BIG library branch. the kids loved it. i wanted to stay longer but the kids weren't very cooperative.

if it had been happy hour at sonic i'd have stopped on the way home, but i didn't want to wait around another 25 minutes, and i'm too cheap to buy full-price drinks when i know i can get them for half-price. and besides...it's 48 degrees outside and too cold for an ice-cold drink.

a cup of hot tea is more fitting for today.

did i mention it's 48 degrees and raining? yep, it's just lovely.

tonight is my girls' night out. food and a movie are involved. FUN.

and i should go check on that load of laundry now...see if abbey's crocs are once again wearable.

No chick-fil-a around here. I've heard rumors of one in Massachusetts somewhere. I'm not a big chicken sandwich fan anyway.

I confess to using the kids playgrounds at fast food. OFTEN. Especially in the winter. It's all that keeps me sane some weeks. There are only 2 left in the state - indoor and outdoor! Both are indoor. Praise the Lord. And both are within 10 minutes of my house.

Where is the sun, you ask? Why, it's here in NE Arkansas, where it's 93ยบ as I type this, with humidity near 100%.

Wanna swap weather?

Oh - I have a hard time with those fast food play places too. Oiy. And the weather...I spent many a 4th of July huddled around a fire with a sweatshirt in Seattle. It's just NOT right, is it? No need for sweatshirts here though...just lots of sweat in the shirt.

We had rain and cold yesterday - I even made a pot of soup for dinner!

Soup!

In June!

Isn't that terrible?! :)

It is about 84 degrees IN my house right now. I don't want to turn the air on just yet but I was gone ALL day and it's boiling now!

LOVE Chick-Fil-A...we don't have them in MI but when we vacation, (in just 2 more weeks)I'll be there. I haven't been to a sonic but I hear we just got one not too far from my house so maybe one will come closer too! We did McDonald's play place today too! My kids are still in school until June 12th but we went for an end of the year fun time to beat the heat! Hang in there, summer is coming!

I love you blogging...very entertaining!

love these thinking aloud posts!

about the weather: you feel now how we will feel in October when we are sweating at the Fall Festival and HS football games.

Meredith,

I'm sorry it is so cold there. It was 90 degrees here today.

Yes, you and my husband do know Ms. Janice, don't you? She has been a great teacher and I have enjoyed working with her.

I'm glad you liked the bird post. We ended up only having one little bird that survived and now he's literally flown the coop. It sure did impact me, though.

By the way, we will be out of town this weekend, but I will email you sometime on our decision to homeschool. Long story, but the bottom line is that we just feel God's leading in that direction for our family at this time. We are really excited.

Have a good (and warmer) weekend!

Mer.......I would SO switch weather with you in a heartbeat! The temp sign at the bank said 102 today! It was so stinkin hot that I had to go inside. I can't believe it's this hot ALREADY!

I sit and shiver in the Pacific Northwest- and then I remember that I can always put more clothes on- but there's a limit to what you can take off. Legally, anyway.
But I remain jealous of the fact that you guys are done with school. 10 days and counting.

Oh, and I always liked Chick-Fil-A waffle fries in my Marietta, GA days.

I wish I had words of comfort for you, but I can only commiserate.

The sun was last seen in these parts on Sunday -- that's five days ago, for those keeping count -- and we have rain and clouds in the forecast for the next 7 days. And highs in the low 70s.

WHERE IS SUMMER?!? I'm starting to panic.

And please tell me this isn't normal for a Colorado summer -- or at least tell me you've already had many warm, sunny days -- or I'm not sure I can move there. Encourage me!

As I sit and type, we're at almost 50 degrees on our third day of driving, pouring-down rain. I would think about slitting my wrists if I could get up the energy to get to the kitchen.

Seriously. This weather. Has.got.to.improve.

Sorry about the crocs "issue". I remember Chick Fil A in Denver and occasionally here, but I think they've pulled out of Seattle because I can't find one. I used to love the Little Golden Books the kids would get in there salt-fat-and-sugar laden kids meals. Good times.

The other day I was speaking to folks at a party and kids menus came up in conversation. It seems many of them eschew the idea of nuggets and macaroni. I however, live for those moments. The table is quiet and happy, and Big and I get to chat unimpeded with "eeewwww I hate that". If I want that, I can just cook. :)

Rambling all the way to nowhere, I must be off...xxxooogretchen

I loved these "thinking out loud" posts.

I am so sorry about the weather! That WOULD be tough!

Trying to decide if 98 degrees or 48 is better? Hmmmm.....

Too bad for that cold weather. We have for a change had 80 degree and sunny weather. Very unusual here, usually we are in the cold rain like you right now. Hope it warms up in a bit.

90 degrees here in oklahoma.

and let me just say how much i totally respect your protest of using capitalization. my pinky finger gets worn out on that shift key...

I had to giggle at your "gag" moments. I would have been the SAME way! It is way hot here!!!

Ok, I've been back reading your last few days worth of posts. I kept waiting for the punchline when you mentioned your kids love chore charts. What did you do when they were young to instill that?!
Your weather sounds glorious (sorry, I know I'm not living in it). Here we're already reaching triple digits and it's only going to get worse. I kind of get a little depressed every year at this time as I realize we're now stuck inside for the next 4 or 5 months.
Sounds like you guys are having a lot of fun together and I'm so impressed with all your purging and selling things on ebay!

I don't know if I left you my new URL, or not, but here it is. I hope you had a fab girls night and are enjoying a warm weekend.

48 degrees???? SERIOUSLY? That makes me sad. It's twice that here in AR and I love it. I need heat and humidity at least a few months a year!

Okay again another great post. Can I tell I laughed out loud at this-

"even grosser was the kid who picked up abbey's croc and started chewing on it. *gag*"

I love Chick-fil-a!
