thinking out loud... (again)

what in the world are we going to do with our dog when we're gone next month? a kennel is the obvious answer but jack is going to be so sad. i hope he still likes us when we get back.

i really need to buy a new swimsuit.

sarah needs one too.

ditto for john.

we had such a good time in denver the other evening visiting with some friends from arkansas! i got caught up on all the arkadelphia scoop, and the mexican food wasn't bad either.

i chuckled a little at them getting chilled in the evening air. it felt perfect to me, but it took me a few years to feel that way.

i turned our air conditioner on for the first time this afternoon. i was really trying to make it until july without it. i'm stubborn, but i'm not ready to die of heatstroke.

i started a new book today. we'll see if i can get past chapter one. i haven't been able to get into a book in several weeks. and believe me, i've tried many different books.

will, however, is blazing through the books. he's reading To Kill A Mockingbird right now. he worked out some sort of deal with john where he reads a certain number of dad-chosen books and he gets a new Wii game. that kid is a slick negotiator.

i can't get sarah interested in nancy drew to save my life. i've tried reading them with her, reading them to her, letting her pick them and more, but she refuses to like them. how can she be my child?

i wonder if the mail has come.

oh, i need to remember to stop the mail while we're gone.

and stop the dairy service too.

praise the lord, my boys are getting haircuts today. my son's hair is SO long and it is driving me crazy. he doesn't know it yet, but it's getting chopped this afternoon (insert evil laugh here). i need to remember to take a before and after picture.

speaking of will, he got up this morning and fried 2 eggs for himself. i showed him how yesterday morning, and he got up and did it all by himself today. amazing. and they actually looked delicious...maybe even better than mine. i'm sure his future wife will thank me someday.

over and out.

Swimsuit: Land's End!!

With ya on the AC!!

You can put a hold on your mail from on-line. Joel did it before our vacation last month - I assume USPS has a website for it. Saves a trip to the post office.

Nancy Drew - Have you tried Trixie Belden? It's about the same era (for the originals) and is about a group of kids. I started with Trixie and worked my way up to Nancy.

Love the random thought posts. i feel right at home with everything going on in your head.

I might just try one of my own next week!

Great job on the friend eggs. I think there is nothing more important inour job as parents than to raise self sufficient
kids. And frying eggs is a great place to start!

we have no air conditioning and I am to cheap to buy one before we do the major remodel on our house that is supposed to happen next summer, so until then, we just overheat. It is supposed to be in the mid to high 90's this weekend.
Hooray for the pool at our gym!

I am just finishing a wonderful book called "same kind of different as me" you should check it out. I am experiencing the opposite of you right now. I am devouring everything I can get my hands on. My youngest child is 4.5 and I am just rediscovering my love of reading in the wake of his blossoming independence!!

Good luck on the bathing suit!

Yea, we've had the air on here in Georgia since the end of May and then it was 90 DEGREES.... what the heck?
It's MAY! It has cooled down now to the 80's and you remember the humidity, right??? I remember the crisp nights of Colorado. I slept in my sweats... : ) I was glad I had packed them!

What book are you reading??

Lydia is devouring Nancy Drews. Maybe you sweet one will catch on....eventually. Is she a reader? What grade is she in? Lydia will be in 6th next year and she just now picked up the Nancy Drew books.
She's already gotten a free bookmark, and a pizza coupon and is now working on her "free book" status in the summer reading at the library.

Hugs,
Julie

I have never posted before but love to read your blog. Being a huge animal lover our family has a golden retriever Macintosh...140 pounds, 3 wonderful cats Harley, Sammy and Penny and our boys, (16 and 14) have 3 red eared turtles...I guess those are ous too. We have always found someone in our neighborhood that would either stay at the house while we are gone and that way it looks like there is activity at the home....so someone to pick up mail and newspapers or they would come by and walk Mac a couple of times a day, feed the cats and turtles.

The haircut and eggs cracked me up.

What kind of dairy service do you have. I haven't heard of that before.

You have a milk man?

Lucky!

It's funny, I really did not like Nancy Drew (or mystery's at all) when I was a kid. But my daughter LOVES them.

So we've been reading, and I enjoy them as an adult. Go figure!

I taught Jess to cook as soon as he could operate the stove. His eggs look really gross- because they are eggs- but he loads them up with interesting spices and makes a mean omlet. I just gave my younger boys haircuts. I need to be taught how to do Jesse's now.

You probably know this, but you can go to www.usps.com (I think) and shut of your mail online. :) Works for me because I always forget until the last minute.

My son needs a haircut, too! Big time. I say: Either style it or cut it. Styling is not happening.

Good for Will!

Good luck w/swimsuits. If you have time before you leave, going to Lands End (or Sears) is good because they have quality suits.

Not that you need all these tips from me...Who do I think I am? Just want you to have the most fab time!

Honey, our A/C goes on when it hits 75; I'm not one for humidity, and we really feel ours when it warms up. Plus, it's better for allergies. But...I do love an open window.

Have a great day! xxxooogretchen

Mer-
So great to catch up with you this morning. I love your new photo--curly hair is so cute on you! Again, I'm so jealous that there's a chill in the air there in the evenings, that sounds so delicious. Some friends from our church just moved up to CS and were emailing everyone to gloat about the beautiful weather.

Im new to your blog and I love it already. I have two girls and one boy... one messy house waiting to be cleaned. That cookbook on your last post reminded my of the little house on the prairie. I loved those books and the show. Kepp up the great bloggin'! Susie H~

I love when you just tell us stuff that is going on - fun post.

My friend Amy has dairy service where she lives in CO. I wish we had it in Texas! They say the milk is so good.

Very impressed with Will's reading lis ans his new cooking skills! Keep teaching him becasue his wife will be very impressed.

Did you find a swim suit? I am in need of one as well. I can not believe it is July and I do not have one yet.
