10 on the 10th!

How about 10 of my favorite smells of summer?
I promise this will be my last post about my undying love for summer for awhile. I apologize for the repetition. I'm just so happy about it because we were still getting snow a mere 5-6 weeks ago.

How about...
1. Chlorine
I love the smell of chlorinated water. I grew up spending most of every single summer day at the pool. We were members of the Elks club and I spent a lot of time there as well as in friends' pools. One friend's pool even had a razorback painted on the bottom of it. Summer and water are inseparable in my book.

2. Charcoal
Is there anything like the smell of charcoal wafting through the neighborhood at dinner time? Mmmmmmm.

3. Fireworks
There is something incredibly nostalgic for me about the smell of fireworks. I just love it!

4. Insect repellant
Off! and Avon's Skin So Soft both make me think of summer nights spent outside in Arkansas. I don't have to use insect repellant much here in Colorado (one of the bajillion reasons I love living here!!!) but every once in a while I catch a whiff...and I like that smell and what it reminds me of.

5. The lake
The lake definitely has a different smell than a swimming pool but I love it just as much. It reminds me of tubing and water-skiing and boating and jet-skiing and honestly, there is NOTHING that brings me quite as much summertime joy. Sad thing: recreational lakes are few and far between in Colorado.

6. Suntan lotion
Specifically Coppertone because it reminds me of my childhood summers, but I also love Hawaiin Tropic. And Banana Boat. Does anyone still call it suntan lotion/oil? Do they even sell that anymore or is it all just "sunscreen" now?

7. Rain
We were sitting outside at Il Vicino last weekend and it started raining. It didn't rain hard, and it didn't last long but it smelled sooooooooo good. I think summer rain smells divine.

8. Honeysuckle
We have a honeysuckle vine in our backyard. Like most of our flowers and plants, it is just starting to green up and I cannot wait to see and smell those yellow/white blossoms. The day that John and I were leaving Big Sur, we stopped by the town's outdoor library sale. My leg was hurting pretty bad that day so I hung out for a long time by the section of books located by the honeysuckle vines and I drank deeply of their sweet, sweet smells while John perused to his heart's content.

9. Grass
Nothing like the smell of grass is there?

10. Watermelon
Whether you love it or hate it, can we agree that it just screams summer?

Alright, if you want to join the 10 on the 10th this month, just make a list of 10 things--anything you choose--and link up below!

Peace out, peeps.

The smell of warm rain is my favorite smell of all.

My least favorite is the smell of soured swimming pool towels that got left in the back of the Suburban :)

Oh...my very favorite smell is the circle c Hawaiian Pineapple. Oh, reminds me of pure fun in the summer time!

My most unfavorite smell is the smell of our milk yesterday--it reaked of fish for some reason! Ick! So we threw it out.

Even though I live somewhere where it rains...a lot, I still love the smell of a summer rain. It's different. It's divine.

All your favorite smells are my favorite smells TOO!

Maybe I'll actually get my 10 little ducks in a row and blog today...crazier things have happened.:)

Sigh...I linked to the wrong 10 on the 10th...sorry...I wasn't paying attention to Mr. Linky.

My mom still calls it 'suntan lotion.'

Chlorine reminds me of swim team nerves. Thankfully the pool we swim at now is a salt-water pool and the kids don't smell like anything chemically when we leave - no baths necessary!!!

LOVE your list. :)

Being from the DFW area in Texas, one of my childhood memories is of the asphalt smell at 6 Flags. Weird, I know.

Enjoyed doing my first 10 on the 10th post.

The smell of incoming rain, if it really gets here. BTW- for summer fun at a rec. lake in Colorado try John Martin Res. or Bonny Lake.

PS. I call it suntan lotion too... I couldn't remember what else you'd even call it 'til I read 'sunscreen' ;)

I still call it "Suntan Lotion."
And people look at me like I'm weird. But I just can't make myself call it "sunscreen." I don't want to screen the sun. I love it too much!!!!!!

I was just smelling chlorine and sunblock this morning and loving it!

And they DO sell that Coppertone oil in the brown bottle, I saw a lady slathering it on at the pool today.

And Watermelon...I ate an entire watermelon all by myself this week. Well, maybe not the whole thing (there is still a little bit left in the fridge), nobody else likes it around here but me!

Allergic to all kinds of grass, but still lurve how it smells. :)

Ack--I'm a convert. I now call it sunscreen. But I had the same scents as a kid. We also had Bain de Soleil (SPF 4) for my mom. I wasn't allowed to use it (expensive).

Can't think of any better whiffs than your list. Fireworks in CO, when they're not banned are AWESOME!
