The Top Five

The top five things I'm thankful for today...

1. John will be home soon! Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock.
He's been in San Diego since Monday. I've probably said it umpteen bajillion times before, but neither of us is our best when we're apart. Traveling is a necessary part of J's job but we're both happiest when we're together.

2. Coffee. Coffee. Coffee.
I sleep very little when John is gone. And by very little, I mean a few hours each night. I'm so thankful for coffee to keep me going because I am a walking zombie without it. I'm afraid to tell you how many cups I've had each morning this week. Your productivity level soars when you begin your day at 4am with massive amounts of caffeine. Just sayin'.

3. Our gorgeous weather.
This is the first time in the 7+ years we've lived here that we didn't see snow in the month of October. We've had some cold days and we've begun to dip into the teens and twenties at night BUT this is the mildest fall we've had in ages. I am not complaining one bit. I like snow but I'd love for it to hold off a little longer! Our winters are long.

4. I have the whole day at home!
I think I'm going to finish up the few things on my list I didn't get done between the hours of 4-7am (ha!) and then read. I have three books beside my bed: The Hunger Games, The Heretic's Daughter, and The Namesake. I can't decide which to read first. Suggestions? Of course if I sit down to read, chances are good that my eyes will close and I'll be able to nap. If the caffeine wears off.

5. A date with my favorite 8-year-old girl tonight.
We have big plans to shop for things to fill her shoebox for Operation Christmas Child. She's also requested an ice cream stop. I just can't say no to her sweet little freckled face so that's on the list for tonight too!

Hope your Thursday is off to a great start!

I have those 3 books (plus 3 others) on my night stand! I'm starting with The Hunger Games when I finish Rebecca (for the 1000th time) and Life without strife (1st time). Let me know if you start it & we can share notes!

Love your top 5!

Daniel just came home from a trip, I've been drinking lots of coffee from my new Keurig, I had the whole day at home, AND we did OCC shoeboxes last night! It's like we're living the same lives on opposite sides of the country! haha

Hi Meredith,

Just wanted to say that at the school I teach at we had loose change competitions with all the money raised going to Operation Christmas Child. We managed to make 100 boxes! AND we're all the way over in Australia! So wonderful to see kids all over the world caring for the less fortunate.

Love your blog,
Anna

Love your turkey, btw!!! Hope you and Abbey have a great time together! I feel your pain re: living on caffeine. Over the last week, the little one has decided that 5 a.m. is an appropriate time to start the day (except for the day she rose at 4:15). And the time change is a-comin', so it will be even more brutal if we don't get this turned around!
love,
jen

You MUST read The Heretic's Daughter first..and tell me what you think.

I loved it.

Anna, that's awesome! OCC is one of our favorite traditions. We've probably been doing it for close to 10 years!

Jennifer, I'm so sorry. I hope the time change doesn't shorten your sleep time but rather lengthens it!

Kelly, I started it a few weeks ago but had to put it aside for some other things I needed to finish. I'll try again!

Jamie H, I think I'm starting with The Heretic's Daughter...and yes, we can compare notes!

JenB, I just emailed you. If you're sitting in bed drinking coffee and checking email then we truly are living the same life. Scary.

Theanne, my Thursday WAS great, but I"m expecting even BIGGER and BETTER things out of my Friday. Hope yours is a good one as well! ;)

I hope your sweetie made it home safe. I know what you mean about the no sleep thing. I finally took some Nyquil the night before Matt was to get home. The week he was gone, Starbucks was my bff.

I don't sleep well when Mike's gone, either. It probably doesn't help that we started a tradition of letting the girls take turns sleeping with me until he gets back. Especially when he's only gone 2 nights, like last time, and I let both younger ones sleep with me the 2nd night so everyone would get a turn!!

Craig's been gone this week - one more night to go. I don't have too many problems sleeping without him here, but I have problems GETTING UP because he's the one that gets the house moving in the morning.

It's been a ZOO getting out the door in the morning.
