I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for ICE CREAM!

I've had a kid-friendly ice cream recipe stashed away since May and finally pulled it out yesterday to try with the girls.

It was quick, fun, easy, and delicious!

Sarah made this at her friend's house one afternoon, and her mom gave me this illustrated recipe.

Here's the non-illustrated version...

Easy Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

What you need:
1 cup milk
2 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 gallon-size ziploc bag
1 quart-size ziploc bag
4 Tbsp rock salt
3 cups ice

Directions:
Add the milk, sugar, and vanilla to the quart-sized ziploc bag, and make sure it is sealed well. Add the rock salt and ice to the gallon-sized bag, place the smaller bag inside and seal well. Shake vigorously for about 10 minutes or until mixture is hardened. Top with your favorite toppings and enjoy!!!

Shake, shake, shake!

I tried a bite or two (still not eating sugar) and it was yummy. The girls gobbled theirs up and asked to make more! I talked them into saving the fun for another day.

We made this yesterday, too. I found the recipe in my Family Fun magazine (but it calls for half and half instead of milk). The girls had a lot of fun making it. Easy, easy. I didn't even think to put strawberries with it - yum!

Oh, fun! My boys would love it. We'll have to try it!! I even think I have rock salt in the cabinet. May be their surprise for the day! Huh...wonder what I can get them to do around the house before I let them do it!? :)

We just made it. Thanks for the recipe. The boys loved it. I'm going to have to go buy more milk at the grocery store now!! Lots of fun.

SO FUN! I never thought you could make ice cream with out a maker! We have a homemade ice cream maker we got for our wedding and we have never used it. Hopefully when our kids get older it can become a summer activity!

That actually works? Wow--maybe I should get some rock salt before Monica comes to visit. That would be really fun!

Great job (the sugar thing, though making ice cream is a pretty neat thing too)! I have had one bump in the road...peach cobbler! Ugh!!!!! JK didn't want to finish his helping. What was I to do?!

Fun! I didn't know you could make it like this. I'll have to put it on my list of things to do with my little one when she gets a bit older.

What a great idea--burn off some calories with all that shaking before you eat the ice cream. Your girls are so cute!!

Hubby and I were just talking about this while we made our slushies the same way. Did you know it's National Ice Cream Month?

Great idea! I'll have to try that with the kids. Thanks for sharing!

BTW I love the new headers with the 'Question of the Week' and all! Did you create them?

That looks yummy and easy to make. When I taught a young girls class we made ice cream by putting it in a coffee can and playing "kick the can". It was fun, but not as easy as yours.
Thanks for the recipe. I'm going to try it.
God bless,
Brenda

I had a friend give me this recipe last summer. I was so shocked when it actually worked (& it was good). We are going to have to try it again.

Proud that you have stuck with your sugar free lifestyle! :o)

That looks much easier than the way Becky and I attempted to make it several years back!!!!! I don't know that we every succeeded and there is no telling how much salt we added:)

My daugher's birthday is this weekend and she is having a small party. I am going to let the kids make their own ice cream to go with their cake. I'll try to remember to let you know how it turns out! Thanks for the idea!!!!
