I might regret this...

I joined Facebook this morning.

I spent some time cleaning up my email inbox and came across a message about needing to rsvp to my Class of 1988 Reunion, and the email suggested joining a Facebook group as a means to rsvp (and re-connect). Okay, I thought. No big deal.

It's actually a VERY BIG DEAL.

And I'm afraid it could be very, very addictive.

Pride goes before a fall, right? I was feeling all smug about setting good time parameters and staying offline since our recent computer crash...and then I joined Facebook. Nothing like Facebook to suck me back in.

Honestly, I was AMAZED at how many of you are already on Facebook. Man. How do you manage that and blogging? I feel like I'm in WAY over my head.

I don't spend a whole lot of time on FB, except to look at friends' pics and keep up with them occasionally. I ignore all applications and games because I just don't have time. :) Pick and choose what you want to do and you'll be fine...

I am on facebook and like the Moriah, I ignore all of the extra stuff.

I resisted for the longest time too, and then joined a couple of months ago. I must admit, I have been spending (aka, wasting) a lot of time there. Unlike the others who commented before me, I have been playing the games (I LOVE word games) and doing some of the apps. I've been having a great time playing word games with some of my online buddies. Like anything else though, you can put as little or as much time into it as you want. Just like blogging and surfing! It's a great way of connecting though :)

Have fun!

And I thought you were churning butter this morning and making dresses for the girls out of calico...or reading Leviticus or something...

Wow... I guess I need to do a bit more exploring... I didn't even know there were games on Facebook! As you can tell, I don't know much about it... I already have too many blogs I like to read!

Facebook is great and controllable. Don't get sucked into the applications (even games). Set your account settings so you aren't constantly bombarded with e-mails re: Facebook matters. Finally you can import your blog posts into Facebook. Glad you're on...

You know, you can set it up to post your blog posts on your facebook page too...

woo hoo! glad you are on facebook now....and speaking of stuff to take up your time...there's "twitter" too!

facebook is one of our key communications with the youth of our church. those kids are on there frequently and that's how we can send them messages and announcements.

i'm going to FB to search for you now. then i'm going to turn the computer off and do something else....really, i am!

I joined Facebook a year ago to keep up with my (much younger and hip) cousins.

Recently it has exploded and suddenly everyone I know is on FB. I don't keep up with it very well, although I do like flair!

Girl....just wait. I'm a FaceBook junkie. It sucks you in like crazy. I sit down to check status and picture updates and an hour later, I'm still there. It is so worth it though. I've found so many people that I thought I had lost. Have fun!!!! :) I'm so glad that you joined the FB world!

And your question about how do you do it both? When you figure that out let me know!!

Do you have to have a fancy phone/iphone to do this? Why does one sign up for facebook? I have been invited a few times before and thought it was kind of like a virus that grabbed your address book and invited everyone on it.

Just curious! Hope you are feeling better and not churning butter, for Heaven's sake.

Leviticus? oops, I almost wrote Levititcus, and that would've been terrible.

Actually...wasn't bad. I liked it better than Exodus if we're keepin' it real.

Good luck with the stewardship of your time, my friend. I just have to say no because that's a crack I know I'd love. :)

Loved seeing Holly and Joanne this past weekend!!! LOVE THEM BOTH!!!

Yeah..facebook is my new addiction.
Ask Joanne how to do the whole connect blog/facebook thing. She's techie. :)

Hugs,
Fran

i was just convinced to join facebook too! by my highschool friends. i always thought of it as a teenagery place (and i still don't consider it as grown up as blogging--said with nose in the air).

I love John's comment! I also have to agree with another commenter - I don't do anything besides keep up with friends. All the other stuff seems way too time consuming. I also posted my blog site on FB so more folks have been able to keep up with our crazy lives! :-)

I joined facebook last year to get back in touch with friends from Glorieta. Since then I have also gotten back in touch with people from HS. But like others I ignore applications and games.

Leah sent me a link tonight to you on facebook. Fun.

I definitely sympathize with you. I have many friends on Facebook and I have just not taken the time to join for that very reason. I feel that it will suck my time and I will not be able to say no. I pray you'll have lots of self control:)

It's funny - I have to resist the urge to tell dh who all I "talked" to on FB when he asked what I did today - somehow I don't think that is what he is expecting ;)

I've actually been contemplating joining Facebook and MySpace...someone said I should since my children have accounts at these places...to keep an eye on them...

I'm still undecided!

I must admit I am not on Facebook and do not have any intention on joining. I have heard its addicting from several people! Have fun reconnecting with your classmates!

Thanks for the invite to facebook. I'm never there though. I'm usually on my blog. Maybe I'll check it out a little more when the girls start school.

Mer,

I have to say I thought it was kind of funny you just joined Facebook since you haven't had a computer for weeks and your Bloglines is probably out of control! (Neverthless, I am happy to be your friend.)

I get on a couple times a week. I'm like some others who've commented that I don't add games or fancy applications, but I do enjoy catching up with people!

Hey Mer,
It was great seeing you on Facebook yesterday! A blast from the past and the days before Captivating.

I was on last night and an old high school buddy was on. I have not seen him in 33 years. We chatted for quite some time. He's now a pastor here in GA. It was fun catching up. Now I am wondering who else from high school is on there...

I don't really spend much time on it, unless I start chatting. But it's a fun way to play around with my kids and see other's pictures.

Hugs,
Julie

Hey, I'm back.

Would you pray for my Courtney? She's leaving on Monday for a 3 weeks missions trip to India. She's flying alone and meeting our missionary friends there.
It's her first flight...

Pray for her and ME!
Hugs,
Julie

I know what you mean! As soon as I joined FB, I was like "Great. Blogging wasn't enough, now FB!" It is addicting!

I've been debating whether or not to join FB. I'm with you -- it's hard enough to just manage the blogging. I'm afraid if I joined FB, I wouldn't get anything done! :)

Mer,
It sucked me in in the beginning, but once my friend finding was mostly over - its usually a quick check. I myself am going to set computer parameters this week. But we're sure glad your back to regular blogging! I missed you!!
