One More Chance!

I've tried not to be too obnoxious about this on my blog, but my husband wrote a book! It's a Christmas book that would be wonderful to read or use as a devotional during this season of Advent. I know many of you are already doing that, but he told me last night that I could give another copy away this week.

So..........

If you'd like a chance to win, leave me a comment and tell me one of your favorite Christmas or Advent traditions. If you don't have any traditions, tell me your favorite character in the Nativity story.

I'll close comments tomorrow night (Thursday, December 3 at 10pm MST) and draw a winner and mail your book on Friday!

My favorite tradition is lighting the Advent wreath every Sunday evening and having a discussion with my three kids about what it means. I'm thinking of lighting the candle at dinnertime every night as a "daily" reminder of the meaning of advent. Family means even more to us now b/c my hubby just got home 2 weeks ago from Iraq. This is such a magical time of year to spend with family and count your blessings!!

My favorite Christmas tradition is the baking/cooking we do for our friends and family. It's hard work but it brings back really fun times and creates more at the same time!

My very favorite Christmas tradition outside of just about everything (I LOVE CHRISTMAS) is two-fold. I love sitting beside the tree with all the holiday decorations out and I ADORE wrapping gifts. I know that many people do not like the wrapping process but I LOVE it. I like picking out the paper, the ribbons and then wrapping the gifts especially for each person. Then I love placing the wrapped gifts under the tree so I can see them.
I'm sure this risks sounding materialistic and I certainly hope it doesn't sound that way...I just like presenting someone with a special gift that's outside reflects how special I think the thing inside is. When I coordinated Angel Tree for our church one of my favorite things was "fancying up" the packages. It just always seemed to me that if a child received only one or two gifts and they were supposed to be from their incarcerated parent...they should look just like I'm sure that parent would hope they did.

Christmas Eve Service at church. Just us at home afterwards and the kids open 1 package...Christmas jammies! Rotel Velvetta Dip on Christmas Day and either Christmas Eve or Day we have Mexican food for dinner. Birthday cake for Jesus Christmas Morning.

Did you say A favorite thing? or MANY favorite things?:)

i think this is my first comment on your blog! i was thinking while i was driving today that i'm not even sure what advent is all about. i'm such a bad baptist preacher's daughter! i know we always lit the candles...and i read about it often...but i never seem to retain what it stands for. hmm.

My favorite tradition is decorating a birthday cake for Jesus and singing Happy Birthday. We do it every year!

Since my husband's a pastor, we have the traditional Christmas Eve service at church. This makes it impossible to travel "home" for the holiday...and I have to admit I love it! I have nothing against spending Christmas with extended family, but I'm thankful to have the excuse to not go anywhere. I love being home on Christmas day with my family--no traveling, no going to friends' houses...just my husband, my kids and me relaxing and celebrating together. So I'd have to say being home together with my family is my favorite tradition...

As simple as it is, one of my favorite traditions is decorating Christmas cookies with my kids.

How super cool your husband wrote a book -- and how sweet of you to share a copy.

My favorite Christmas tradition is to ride around looking at lights and sing carols. We didn't have that opportunity in the country, and my husband grew up 15 minutes from where we live, so he knows all the great houses!

I love opening the Advent calendar w/ the kids. I got a magnetic one a few years ago; it's really cool.

I was just "browsing" through this book on Amazon and kicking myself for not buying it before the Advent season began!

We started the family Advent wreath this year. Every night at dinner, we have family readings and light the candles. That's my favorite spiritual part of Christmas.

From the commercial end of it, I love a good sappy holiday movie!

Everyone gets to open one special ornament on the night before Christmas Eve. It gives us an opportunity to reflect on important events that have passed that year. And it makes putting off opening presents a little less painful. :)

I LOVE being with family for Christmas! I am also looking forward to teaching my 15 month old about the real reason for Christmas. I love the smells of fresh baked cookies amongst other great smells, the way the lights sparkle and the way you get a chance to "catch" up on everyone's year.

My favorite Christmas tradition is going to church on Christmas Eve. We have a candle ceremony and sing Christmas hymns together as the body of Christ. It is PACKED and the sounds of everyone singing praises to God brings tears to my eyes every year. It is also my favorite because 5 years ago my husband accepted Christ at the Christmas Eve service.

One of my favorite activities is baking with my friends and family. I have one friend who hosts this every year and we usually invite up to 20 kids. It is such a fun day we laugh so much. It always makes us feel so special to have this time with our friends at such a busy time of year.

We have lots of Christmas traditions from ornament collecting, watching Christmas movies, drinking hot cider while sitting in a room lit only by the Christmas tree, baking Christmas cookies, making Christmas candy, collecting Nativity sets, Christmas crafts, acting out the Christmas story, reading an advent devotion book and doing an advent calendar. I love this time of year! It's hard for me to choose just one favorite!

I love the tradition of decorating the tree and drinking hot chocolate. And giving the kids new jammies on Christmas Eve, they know what is going to be in the package but get very excited anyway!!

Wow! So generous of your husband!! My favorite tradition takes place on Christmas morning. The kids come into our bedroom and we read the Christmas story in Luke, say a prayer and start the day with the Wonder of the Season fresh in our minds!

I'd love to win your husband's book - how cool is that!!

My favorite tradition is decorating the house for Christmas. We do this as a family and I love all the lights and decorations that take me back to my childhood. I also like having my whole family over for Christmas Eve dinner and having a birthday cake for Jesus as dessert.

My favorite Christmas tradition with my family is Christmas Eve. We go to Christmas Eve service at church and then we drive around and look at lights. Once we get home we set out milk/cookies for Santa, sprinkle reindeer food and read The Night Before Christmas. Once the kids are in bed my husband and I put the presents under tree, fill the stockings and watch Christmas Vacation.
