Giveaway Winner

Using a highly unscientific method (I asked John to pick a number between 1 and 26), the winner of the autographed copy of Touching Wonder is #4:

Liz

John and I started laughing when we realized it was Liz because she is a friend of mine and her brother was John's roommate in college and lived across the street from us for several years in Arkansas. Today is Liz' mom's birthday (Happy Birthday, Nancy!) and she said that this book would make a great gift for her.

I'll get it in the mail to you in the morning, Liz! Congrats.

Lazy and Discombobulated and a Giveaway.

Today is my Monday. The kids were out of school yesterday for a teacher work day and it was super nice to have an extra day at home with them. I asked them what they wanted to do yesterday and they said, "Nothing." That worked out nicely for me because that's exactly what I wanted to do! Win-Win!

I love three day weekends, but I've decided that I much prefer my extra day to be on Friday. When it falls on a Monday I spend the rest of the week trying to get my brain to remember the correct order of things I'm supposed to be doing and I end up feeling so discombobulated. I really like that word, just not the feelings associated with it.

Moving on.

I closed my Twitter account over the weekend. A couple of (very observant) friends noticed right away and emailed me to ask why. I have lots of reasons...none of which can be shared without sounding snarky or condescending. It all goes back to that statement I made not long ago about believing there is such a thing as being "too plugged in." I pulled yanked the plug on Saturday and haven't had a single regret.

Did I mention it's supposed to snow this week? Yep. I think I'm finally ready.

Have I mentioned that I have the best neighbors? Yep, I do.

Could someone explain to me how we got to November NINTH so quickly? Wow. This month is fah-LYING. I was trying to get some scheduling stuff figured out yesterday and realized that we only have two more Sundays before it's Advent. Wowza. I am not ready.

Speaking of Advent...

I have a great book to get your heart and mind engaged during the Christmas season.
I know I'm a tiny bit biased, but I truly believe it is THE BEST Christmas/Advent devotional book in the world.

And...

I'm giving a signed copy away to one lucky reader.

If you want to be entered in my drawing for this book, leave me a comment. You can tell me what you're most looking forward to about Christmas this year, one of your favorite Christmas traditions, one of your favorite Christmas carols or foods, or you could suggest a topic for tomorrow's 10-on-the-10th post. Just don't comment and tell me that you've finished your Christmas shopping because that would stir up all sorts of jealous and competitive feelings in me, and then I'd probably have to work doubly hard to NOT draw your name. ;)

I'll randomly choose a winner next Monday, November 15. I know lots of you already have this book but you can still enter to win; I'm sure you know someone who would love to read it! So, good luck, and peace out.

I'm giving away a copy of John's latest book, Start with Me.

If you'd like a chance to win a copy, please leave a comment below. I'll randomly choose a winner next Wednesday, September 29 at 8PM MST. I can probably even talk the author into signing it for you. *wink wink*

I'm making you work for it this time!

I mentioned in my last post that I found a Sidewalk Prophets cd the other night. John's boss is always passing awesome music our way (thank you Mr P!!!) so I thought I would pass my gently-used cd on to one of you. It's a giveaway. Yay!!!

To enter this giveaway, I'm going to ask you to do something a little different.

I want you to guess the answers the following number questions in the comments.
-----------------------------------

1. According to one local meteorologist, how many inches of snow did my town receive in April?

A. 25
B. 29
C. 31
D. 37

2. How many days until John and I leave for California?

A. 22
B. 32
C. 42
D. 52

3. How many cups of coffee do I drink each morning?

A. 1
B. 2
C. 3
D. 4

4. How much mileage did I log in April? Before I hurt my leg?

A. 58 miles
B. 65 miles
C. 72 miles
D. 80 miles

5. How long has it been since I last dusted?

A. 5 days
B. 10 days
C. 14 days
D. Too many to count

6. How much money did I save with coupons last time I shopped?

A. $4
B. $13
C. $21
D. $30
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first person to get all six answers correct will win my gently used Sidewalk Prophets cd. I should mention that the jewel case is badly cracked, but the cd itself is in excellent shape and has only been loaded onto my computer and played on my cd player once.

If no one gets all six answers correct, then I'll just draw a winner from the comments. Probably on Thursday or Friday.

Have fun guessing! Just one comment per person, please.

Winners!

Oops. Sorry I forgot to post yesterday. I'm sure you were all on the edge of your seat waiting to see if you'd won a whopping $10 or a set scripture cards.

Truth is we were enjoying our SNOW DAY! I don't know how many inches we ended up with. Maybe 8-10? But we stayed home all day (in our pjs) and did a bunch of nothing. It was wonderful, especially since it kicked off our spring break a day early!

Anyway, here are the winners:

One Thousand

Good Monday morning!

This is my 1000th blog post.

I wanted to do something fun to celebrate and when Kellie mentioned a couple weeks ago that she was nearing 1000 posts too, we decided to throw a blog party. (Honestly, I have no idea what a blog party is but it sounds fun, doesn't it).

My favorite kind of parties include presents, so in honor of 1000 posts I'm giving away one thousand pennies in the form of a $10 gift card to a store of your choice.

Seriously, if you're the winner of this giveway, then you'll get to choose where you want to shop. You could pick iTunes and download A Thousand Hallelujahs by March Roach, or my personal favorite A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton. Or you could choose Amazon and order A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. Or you could choose something like Five Guys Burgers and Fries and use your gift card to order a fabulous burger|fry combo thousand calories. Really, it's totally up to you.

I'm also giving away a set of custom scripture cards like these (below) that Amber made for me a couple years ago. I've never tried to make them before so they might not turn out as cute as hers did, but I need a good Spring Break project and I love my set. I keep them in my kitchen and flip through them daily.

How do you enter the drawing for these two prizes?

Well, I'm so glad you asked.

1. If you know me in real life, I want you to leave me a comment sharing a fun|funny memory or tidbit about me. The funnier, the better; I want to laugh this week. (And some of y'all have some good dirt on me.)

2. If we've become friends through this blog, then leave a comment telling me how you happened upon Lifeat7000Feet and estimate how many of my 1000 posts you've suffered through read.

3. If you've NEVER commented before, what are you waiting for? De-lurk and say hello. I promise I won't bite!

I'll choose two winners (one for the gift card, and one for the scripture cards) on Thursday night.

Please visit Kellie's blog today and congratulate her on 1000 posts! Her party is going on all week long!!!

Lucky 13!

I really wish I could give lots and lots of books away, but I can't. Sigh. The winner of You Can Still Wear Cute Shoes is Chris.

Chris wrote: Our church just was blessed with a new senior pastor in December. His wife and children are still in OK waiting to sell their home, so the challenging days have already started for her. This will be her first time being the wife of a senior pastor, and I'm sure she will love reading the book.I am a wife of an elder, on the women's ministry leadership team, Bible study coordinator and co-leader of a women's minstry to hurting women called Lifelines. If that qualifies me for a second entry...I'll take it!!!

Hey Chris, will you leave me a way to contact you in the comments? I know you're local, but I need to get an address from you because I'm going to have your book shipped from Amazon. Thanks and congrats!

Married to the pastor (and a giveaway!)

I'm answering some more questions from this post today. Jeanie asked me three things about being a pastor's wife. For those of you who might not know, my husband was a pastor for many, many years. And that made me a pastor's wife.

Jeanie asked:
Was it hard to be a pastor's wife?
Yes, absolutely. Our very first church offered us nothing but love, understanding, and grace. John was fresh out of seminary and we were very green. I'm incredibly thankful that our first experience was such a good one because the subsequent churches he pastored proved to be much more difficult.

I probably made things hard on myself most of the time by trying to be all things to all people, but I was young and stupid and hadn't really figured out who I was. I know that I would handle so many things differently today.

There were definitely some challenges along the way, and definitely some hurtful stuff, but there were also so many wonderful things about being the pastor/pastor's wife. We are richly blessed today because our lives have overlapped with the lives of so many amazing, faithful people.

Neither of us feel that God has closed the door on pastoral ministry for our family, and to be honest, that scares the heck out of me. I take comfort in the fact that we both know and believe if God calls us into something new, it will probably be different than anything we've ever done before.

Did it mean you had to be friends with everyone and couldn't just have best friends in your church?
In every church we served, I've had best friends. There is some debate about whether having best friends in your church is healthy. I don't know if it is or isn't; I just knew that I needed a few people I could go deep with.

That's not to say that I didn't have lots of friends. I did. Good grief, I still do. But I do remember feeling overwhelmed at times by the number of people who felt much closer to me than I did to them. I still feel that way sometimes. Even though I had/have a lot of friends, I'm not willing to invest 100% in every one of them. That might sound selfish, but it's honest. I think we all have levels of friendship...and I can only have two or three at a time in my inner circle.

I loved having friends outside of my church too. They were the ones who seemed to like me for who I was...not because of who I was married to, or for who I was connected to, etc. Church was such a big part of our lives that it felt great to have a circle of friends outside of it.

Did you feel like people expected you to be super spiritual and have it all together? (Of course maybe you were...in which case disregard this question).
I've never been superANYTHING (smart, funny, thin, cool, etc), so no, I didn't feel like I had to be super spiritual. And I wasn't. I'm still not. In fact, I find people who are super-spiritual to be annoying, and I often wonder what they're trying to hide with that mask. Maybe that's just me, and if so, that's fine, but I'm attracted to people who are real, and that's what I've always desired to be.

There were times that I did feel like I had to "have it all together" though. It was very humbling to realize I didn't. Which was often. Still is. I've said and done many things that weren't appropriate for "the pastor's wife" to say and do. I've apologized more times than I can remember, and there are probably still some people I should apologize to. I've held grudges, I've done things with a crappy attitude, and I've broken confidences, and the list goes on and on. BUT, I'm human, I'm forgiven, and I'm walking the same road most of you are--making mistakes and learning right alongside you. I'm not perfect, not by a long shot. But I try really hard to be honest with myself and real with others.

I could write a book about some of the things I've learned in/about ministry. But I'm not going to because Lisa (aka The Preacher's Wife) already has!

John brought a copy home for me a couple of weeks ago (one perk of having a husband who works in publishing!) It was a GREAT read. Lisa is funny and wise, and her writing makes you feel like you're chatting over a cup of coffee. If you're a pastor's wife (or a ministry wife)(or in ministry yourself) I think you'd enjoy reading it.

That's why I'm giving a copy away.

If you're NOT in ministry, you can still enter. Just tell me who'd you'd like to give the book to should you win. And it's totally okay if you want to read it yourself before you pass it along.

If you ARE in ministry, then you get TWO chances to win. Just leave me two comments! Be sure to tell me what kind of ministry you're in. It's not limited to pastoral ministry y'all.

I'll leave the giveaway open until Wednesday night and post a winner on Thursday AM.

Have a great weekend!

One More Chance!

I've tried not to be too obnoxious about this on my blog, but my husband wrote a book! It's a Christmas book that would be wonderful to read or use as a devotional during this season of Advent. I know many of you are already doing that, but he told me last night that I could give another copy away this week.

So..........

If you'd like a chance to win, leave me a comment and tell me one of your favorite Christmas or Advent traditions. If you don't have any traditions, tell me your favorite character in the Nativity story.

I'll close comments tomorrow night (Thursday, December 3 at 10pm MST) and draw a winner and mail your book on Friday!

Anniversary Week: Giveaway #5

A month or so ago, I got a happy surprise in the mail from my friend, Renae.

Isn't it cute? I can't tell you how much I love this market tote. I've used it so much and get so many compliments on it when I do! Right now I have it packed for the second grade Halloween party that I'm not sure is going to happen because there's a chance of another snow day today!!! isn't going to happen because our district just closed schools for the THIRD day this week!

I'm giving away one of these personalized totes from Renae at Tree Frog Creations today. You can visit her Etsy shop here. She also sells buckets and lunch bags and all sorts of other cute stuff (that I bet would make great Christmas gifts for people on your list!) And hey, if you're an OBU friend or alumni, guess what? Renae is too!

To enter today's giveaway, leave me a comment and tell me your plans for this Halloween weekend. Parties? Festivals? Trick-or-treating? A nice, quiet evening at home? My kids are excited about all we have going on this weekend. I'm excited too. I think our snow days this week have helped me feel a little more prepared for the activity overload!

Happy Friday! Don't forget that all of this week's giveaways are open until tomorrow night. I'll draw and post the winners sometime on Sunday.

The fine print: Giveaway will close at 10pm on Saturday, October 31. Winners will be chosen at random and posted on Sunday, November 1. Contest is open to US and international residents. You don't have to have a blog to enter, but you must leave a way to be contacted should you win.

Anniversary Week: Giveaway #4

Well, it's been snowy here in Colorado this week. We had a snow day yesterday, and I'm hoping our delay this morning is soon upgraded to a closure as well I just found out that schools are closed again today! Woohoo--back-to-back snow days! Snow days are so wonderful--even in October!

I always say that snow days are a gift because they force us to slow down and rest. Yesterday the kids and I stayed in our pjs, read, watched movies, drank lots of coffee and hot chocolate, made some crafty stuff for Halloween (hope to post pics this afternoon) and baked Snickerdoodles. I tried to get someone to play Farkle with me but couldn't get any takers. Sigh. The only thing that would have made our day perfect was if John were at home with us too. He's been out of town this week but should arrive home this afternoon. Woohoo!

Anyway, I'm rambling. Sorry.

Today's giveaway is what I'm calling my Snow Day Necessities Giveaway. It includes the following:
$10 Starbucks card (for hot, tasty beverages)
$1 to rent a Redbox movie (what's a snow day without a movie?)
Your choice of one of the following games: Farkle, LCR, or Scrabble Slam (Hopefully you can find someone to play with you.)

Leave me a comment and tell me what you'd do if you had a snow day today and you'll be entered in the Snow Day Necessities Giveaway.

And by the way, I feel compelled to draw your attention to the ads on my right sidebar. Those nice people pay me a little bit of money each month to display their ads on my blog. I don't make a ton of money, but it's nice to have some "mad money" to feed my Starbucks addiction or to go out for lunch with friends. This month, I'm using my earnings to pay for these fun prizes!!!

The fine print: Giveaway will close at 10pm on Saturday, October 31. Winners will be chosen at random and posted on Sunday, November 1. Contest is open to US and international residents. You don't have to have a blog to enter, but you must leave a way to be contacted should you win.

Anniversary Week: Giveaway #3

Anniversary Week continues and I hope you're having fun because I sure am!

I absolutely love this ribbon plate that Jillian gave me earlier this year.

The one I have is from Southern Living at Home, but sadly it has been discontinued. However, I found a similar version at Michael's and that's what I'm giving away today!

Leave me a comment and tell me something(s) you're thankful for.

Today, I'm thankful for these three kiddos. John and I are crazy about them!

I'm also thankful for my husband who works hard so that I can stay at home, and for new SmartWool socks! I got some fun ones the other day--they make me smile AND they keep my feet super warm!!!

Here are links to some ways I've decorated my plate:
I usually use Sharpies or my ZIG markers. Just test an area first to make sure it comes off--sometimes I have to really scrub.

Anyway, the possibilities are as vast as your imagination. And I suppose you could use it as a serving piece as well!

So tell me what you're thankful for today and maybe you'll be the lucky winner of this giveaway!

The fine print: Giveaway will close at 10pm on Saturday, October 31. Winners will be chosen at random and posted on Sunday, November 1. Contest is open to US and international residents. You don't have to have a blog to enter, but you must leave a way to be contacted should you win.

Anniversary Week: Giveaway #2

Happy Tuesday everyone! I had so much fun reading all of your comments yesterday and now I have lots of new stuff I want to check out on iTunes. Thank you!

Alright, today I'm giving away a copy of my husband's book, Touching Wonder. (You knew this was coming, right?)

John has taken several of the characters in the Nativity story--Mary, Joseph, Gabriel, Zachariah, and more-- and told the story of Jesus' birth from their perspective. You can read the first chapter here. I personally think it's a brilliant book, but others are giving it great reviews too. I am so incredibly proud of John.

To enter the book giveaway, I want you to leave a comment telling me one thing that just makes Christmas feel like Christmas for you. Maybe it's the music, maybe it is certain smells or all the delicious food or the Christmas tree or your nativity scene. Maybe you're Jewish and you celebrate Hannukah. Share something that makes that special for you. There is no right or wrong answer!

For me...it's our Advent wreath. We keep it on the table, read the designated scriptures, light the candles, and eat by candlelight each night at dinner. It is a deliberate time at the end of our day to slow down and focus on what the season is about. I love it so much.

I know that many of you have already bought a copy of Touching Wonder. Thank you! Please feel free to enter the giveaway though. I'm sure there is someone you can gift with this book!

I also want to mention that Touching Wonder was illustrated by our dear friend, Amanda. John is giving away a print of one of Amanda's sketches (cool!!!) along with a copy of his book over on his blog this week. You can click here to see the print and to enter his giveaway.

The fine print: Giveaway will close at 10pm on Saturday, October 31. Winners will be chosen at random and posted on Sunday, November 1. Contest is open to US and international residents. You don't have to have a blog to enter, but you must leave a way to be contacted should you win.

Anniversary Week: Giveaway #1

It's Anniversary Week and time for Giveaway #1.

Alright...

Who wants to win a $10 iTunes card?

To be eligible for the giveaway, leave me a comment and tell me the name of a song or two (or ten) that you could listen to over and over and over and never get tired of hearing, OR what songs/albums you would buy with a little extra iTunes money.

Me? I would buy Chris Tomlin's Christmas album (because I love Chris Tomlin and because I started listening to Christmas music in September). Or perhaps this soundtrack (because I love it and my cassette tape has completely disintegrated). Or some Coldplay (because my son thinks they're awesome and I like them too). Or anything by Nichole Nordeman. Right now I have this song and this song of hers (go listen to them both!) on repeat on my iPod. (I'm a huge Nichole Nordeman fan.)

If you're wondering if you have to have an iPod to win an iTunes card--you don't! You can use it to download music to your computer and listen to it from there...or burn your downloads to a cd. Just wanted to be clarify that for all you non-techy people. Smile.

Now it's your turn. I'm all ears.

The fine print: Giveaway will close at 10pm on Saturday, October 31. Winners will be chosen at random and posted on Sunday, November 1. Contest is open to US and international residents. You don't have to have a blog to enter, but you must leave a way to be contacted should you win.

Anniversary Week at Life at 7000 Feet!

Four years ago today, I started this blog. What started out as a way for our family and friends in Arkansas to keep up my family has turned into SO much more than I ever imagined. Through this blog I've reconnected with old friends and made dozens of new ones. You guys have loved me, laughed with me, prayed for me, and have made the internet such a happy place to visit each day.

And so...

I'm declaring it Anniversary Week here at Lifeat7000Feet, and beginning tomorrow I'm going to be giving away something fun every single day this week.

Whether you're a long time reader or a brand new one, you're eligible to enter the giveaways! You'll have to visit each day to find out what the giveaway-of-the-day is but I'll leave each one open until next Saturday, and draw/post all winners on Sunday. Should be a fun week!

Tune in tomorrow to see what fun prize one lucky reader could win!

Happy Anniversary!

[Today is also a very significant day in the spiritual life of our children and our family. Will, Sarah, and Abbey were baptized at our church this morning! My heart is full of joy for our family and for the significance that this day will carry for our children. More thoughts on this soon!]

Happy Birthday Giveaway! (updated)

*UPDATE: It's 8:50pm on Sunday night (May 31) and contrary to what I said about closing comments tonight, I'm not going to because I'm exhausted and cannot stay awake until 10pm. I've decided to leave the giveaway open until sometime Monday afternoon. Let's say 2pm MST Monday, June 1. So, if you're just now reading this, then you're not too late to enter the giveaway.*

A few days ago, I was going through all the "treasures" that my kids brought home on the last day of school and I stumbled across Abbey's writing journal. I sat in the floor and read every single entry. Some made me laugh out loud but all of them made me smile.

Thought I'd share this one with you since today is MY BIRTHDAY!!! (Sorry, my photography skills are lacking. Click on the picture to enlarge it if you want to read what she wrote).

(She guessed correctly...I'm 39 today!)

Because no party is complete without presents, I'm offering you a chance to win something today! My college friend, Renae, makes adorable customized buckets. Click here to visit her Etsy shop. If you see something you like, or if you have an idea of something you'd like her to make, come back and leave me a comment and I'll enter you in the drawing! If you win, you'll get to customize the item of your choice!

I'll leave comments open until 10pm MST Sunday night (May 31) and I'll use a random method to draw a winner on Monday morning. One comment per person, please. You don't have to have a blog to enter, but you MUST leave me some way to contact you.

*Winner* (Glad someone will be enjoying Starbucks...)

Lemon Juice to Dawn:

Lemon tell you somethin'... people like you Dawn belong in here!!!

Alright...it was really hard to choose from all the funny comments, but my kids and I like Tiffani's quirky caption the best. Tiffani, if you'll send me your address, I'll send YOU a Starbucks gift card. I actually probably have your address around here somewhere, but you should probably resend it. I seem to be misplacing more than just my mind these days. *smile*

Wednesday, March 04, 2009

You could win a prize!

You know you're tired when you reach to grab the lemon juice and see the dish detergent in the fridge.

It's been a long, busy week, friends.

My brain was too tired to come up with a clever title for this photo-post, but feel free to give it a shot. I'll use a highly subjective method to choose a winner. That means I'll pick the commenter that makes me laugh the hardest and send that person a $5 Starbucks card. So have at it. You have until Saturday night. I'll choose on Sunday.
