Husband Names

I often laugh when I hear friends refer to their husbands as "my hubby" or "the hubs" or "my hubster". I don't think I could ever bring myself to call John ANY of those things, and if I did, he would probably ask me to never call him that again, thankyouverymuch. Kinda like the time early in our marriage when he called me "shug" as in "sugar". Ick!

Anyway, here's a little poll I created because I'm really curious. I hope this works! (If you're reading this in a reader, you'll have to click over to view the poll.)

Several of you have asked so I'll clarify the question. How do you fill in the blank when you're talking about your husband on your blog or with friends or on a status update. Example: Sitting on the couch with __________ watching a movie.

Hm. I started to answer, but really couldn't pick one.

I sometimes refer to him as hubs, hubby, boyfriend etc on my blog. But I NEVER refer to him by those names in real life talking with people. Weird. Face to face talking with people who know us I refer to him as "Billy", face to face talking w/ people who don't know him I usually say "my husband, Billy" and to HIS face I usually call him "Billy" or "Honey".

And I laugh at him calling me anything except for "honey"...oh and when he calls me "babe" I REALLY like that if you know what I mean ;)

So you can see what predicament I'm in with the poll...:)

I call him hubby on my blog, but never in person. In person I call him by his name. Or maybe babe or hon. so I answered hubby, but wondered if that is what you were really asking.

?

I'm with Cathy. I sometimes refer to him as "my hubby" on my blog, but never in person.

Usually his name. And it's Patrick, not Pat. Ick!

We sometimes do "honey" or "babe", too.

I chose "His Actual Name" for the poll. Like the other ladies, that's how I refer to him when he's with me. (I don't even have a pet name for him, although I do say "babe" occasionally.)

However, I call him all sorts of things in writing. Hubs, hubby, the mister, etc.

Which were you looking for?

To others, I use his actual name. To him, I use his actual name and an an "s" to the end & he does the same to my name. I don't remember how that started! Other than that, it is "Honey" or "Honeys"... NEVER "sugar", but I might call him "Sweetie Pie" if no one else is around. :) I also call him "Camille's Dad" (reference to King of the Hill - "Hank's Wife")

It really depends on who my audience is. On Facebook I assume everyone (or most everyone) knows my husband is Joel - so I just refer to him by his first name. On my blog it's usually 'my husband' or his first name. On Twitter or in a comment it would by 'my hubby.' And none of those are hard n fast rules. Though at home I often call him 'Sweet' - short for Sweetheart. I know, it's sickening. We even kiss in front of the kids. Ewww gross!! :)

Mer,

This is hilarious. I'm not a fan of the whole "DH" trend, nor do I ilke calling Eric anything but his name. And vice versa.

I call him other things when I am calling out to him, but that's between he and I. You should just know him as Sebastian. Thankyoverymuch.

This is a fun topic. I would embarrass the heck out of my husband if I listed some of those nicknames. I can say one though, The machine-whisperer, cause he fixes everything electronical in the house.

On the blog, he's either "My Man" or "My Hubby" or "R". In person, he's always "honey"

Cathy's right, I tend to call mine something different in person than on the internet. I rarely call him his actual name to his face though, it's usually either Babe (sometimes pronounced Bay because Cajun people tend to cut off the ends of words so I picked that up from his family) or Hottie.

Online I call him by his name or My Hottie. It's cheesy, but I can't help it......I have a thing for uniforms and Cajun accents and he's a police officer from Louisiana, so he's "hot" to me. :-)

I think I would say "my Chris." :)

Funny how when you have kids you start calling him "daddy" I call him daddy he calls me Mama. But when we are speaking to each other we both say "BABE!" HA!

I thought about assigning alias'? alias's? fake names to my husband and kids when beginning my blog, but, honestly, I can barely call them by their right names as it is. Adding to the list just didn't seem prudent.

I don't know why but this post made me laugh. I always use his real name, but you know that. When I'm calling his name to his face (or yelling down the hallway, as the case may be) I usually use his name or honey. I HATE it when he calls me 'hon' which he does, a lot, unfortunately.

I call him "The Husband" all.the.time. when I'm talking about him. Don't know why....just do.

I don't like "Hubby" and "the Hubs"...seems to cutesy. "The Husband" sounds so much more grownup.

I rarely call him by his real name, and he doesn't call me by my name either. Isn't that weird???

Don't answer that....it IS definitely weird.

I mix it up, just to keep it interesting. Either his name or "hubs".

At home, it's usually "Babe, or hon", but it cracks me up when other people call him Mr. CPQ out in public.

Late to the party...

I call him The Mister on the blog, only because he as serious about security as I am about keeping away from germs.

At home I'll call him Honey on occasion, but only when I am asking to him to do something. For example, when I see a bug or spider and he isn't in the room with me, I'll holler in a sweet tone, "Oh HONEYYYYYYYYYY!"

BUt other than that, he's just called by his name.

I on the other hand have many "nicknames" that he has given me, but he never calls me those name out loud....its mostly in emails we send occasionally from his work to our home, and in written notes.

I use "hubby" quite a bit or "Q" which is his initial...not sure where all that started, although all of our friends call us by our initial...I'm "G" and he's "Q"...so, maybe that was the beginning...who knows.

Here's one for ya...Mal's fiance' calls her "purple duck"....because she's a little odd and not something you find every day...lol.

I used to call him my "manly man" on the blog but that is WAY too much typing for one person. So i've found myself typing "hubby" because it is much shorter. I NEVER call him that IRL. Since I don't use his real name on the blog, it's just by default. I'm liking Gretchen's idea of Stud. It's even shorter. ;)

I always wondered what "DH" stood for when reading other blogs! ha! Now I know!!

Coming in late to this one. I call him Tim if I am talking to people about him. If I am talking to him usually it is Tibs.

If you are friends with him on facebook or twitter you know he calls me Beautiful all.the.time. Rarely does he ever call me by my name. I love it and I think he knows it. Totally melts my heart.
