What Do You See?

My husband posted this picture on his Facebook wall today along with the question, What do you see in this picture?

I'm curious as well. What do you see?

(I don't know who to credit for the photo. John remembers that it came from the Denver Post several years ago.)

Being a huge Wicked fan, I see an excellent witch costume and a fun teacher. Or the answer to what really happened to the wicked witch.

i see a really cool picture that sums up one fun childhood memory for someone.

I see a great teacher not afraid of showing some spirit and LOVING a child - I see two very different children taking it all in and loving every minute of it not worried about color, time or the witch!

Is this a trick question? I have this thing about witches. They scare me. But so do clowns. And anything in costume. I openly admit my weirdness.

I see that a mom forgot to check that her boy had brushed his hair before getting out of the car for school.

Not that I've ever done that.

It's not a trick question, Angela! Just an invitation to look at it for a minute and tell me what you see.

I see some contrast: light/dark, sharp things/soft things.

Haha! I love the messy hair comment. How did I miss that?

Does that witch have pointy nails and a wart? Yikes! Run little children.

I've come back to this picture several times and, while I like some of the photographic elements (contrasts, etc), something about it just "totally weirds me out" (borrowing Gracen's expression)! I don't know if it is the wart on the witch or the fact that the little girl looks really sad--or maybe scared. The little boy, bless his heart, looks like he may be wearing big brother's hand-me-down shirt and I love his messy hair and glasses!

In the spirit of "Wicked" it seems like the caption should be something about "Learning the 'Elphaba'-bet"or maybe "Defying Illiteracy" :)

I think if I looked at this long enough I could see a TON of things, but my initial response is that I see Ralphie from A Christmas Story, lol.

maybe Professor Minerva McGonagall student teaching?

Ok, I've been by numerous times to look at this picture and every time it bothers me......

so many questions.

Why is she "dressed up" yet the kids are not?

Why are the shades drawn on what appears to be a beautiful, sunny day?

Why did no one comb that boys hair?

What do you see Meredith?

One more question:
Why does my sister Trish have a better monitor than me and can see all these disturbing details, when I cannot?

I love the kid's messed up hair...

But I also am a little creeped out by the picture. My logical brain is telling me that it's a great teacher having a lot of fun with the holiday. But the other part of me shudders at the picture. I want the darkness as far away from those babies as possible.

Just my laptop monitor Gina....

the darkness bothers me a bit too, having family members that profess to be wiccan.......

I have no problem with the "fun" of halloween for kids, it just appears that the kids are not celebrating. Just the teacher is.

So maybe this is some kind of witchcraft school and those kids have not earned their cloaks yet......

C'mon Mere, what do you see?

I answered it up above...

I see lots of contrast--dark/light, sharp/soft, and as tempted as I am to say good/evil, I'm not convinced this witch IS evil because of the tenderness in her touch.

the little girl is sad because she feel off her witch-in-training broom and now has to write 500 times that she WILL practice broom riding at home, the "messy" headed boy was able to ride the broom...but lost his hat and his hair became a casualty...he feels bad for the little girl and wants to help her...the teacher is truly scary for she is a dark force giving a seemly tender touch...ahhhh the contrast...black and white photos are a favorite of mine...enjoyed reading other comments...
