Lazy and Discombobulated and a Giveaway.

Today is my Monday. The kids were out of school yesterday for a teacher work day and it was super nice to have an extra day at home with them. I asked them what they wanted to do yesterday and they said, "Nothing." That worked out nicely for me because that's exactly what I wanted to do! Win-Win!

I love three day weekends, but I've decided that I much prefer my extra day to be on Friday. When it falls on a Monday I spend the rest of the week trying to get my brain to remember the correct order of things I'm supposed to be doing and I end up feeling so discombobulated. I really like that word, just not the feelings associated with it.

Moving on.

I closed my Twitter account over the weekend. A couple of (very observant) friends noticed right away and emailed me to ask why. I have lots of reasons...none of which can be shared without sounding snarky or condescending. It all goes back to that statement I made not long ago about believing there is such a thing as being "too plugged in." I pulled yanked the plug on Saturday and haven't had a single regret.

Did I mention it's supposed to snow this week? Yep. I think I'm finally ready.

Have I mentioned that I have the best neighbors? Yep, I do.

Could someone explain to me how we got to November NINTH so quickly? Wow. This month is fah-LYING. I was trying to get some scheduling stuff figured out yesterday and realized that we only have two more Sundays before it's Advent. Wowza. I am not ready.

Speaking of Advent...

I have a great book to get your heart and mind engaged during the Christmas season.
I know I'm a tiny bit biased, but I truly believe it is THE BEST Christmas/Advent devotional book in the world.

And...

I'm giving a signed copy away to one lucky reader.

If you want to be entered in my drawing for this book, leave me a comment. You can tell me what you're most looking forward to about Christmas this year, one of your favorite Christmas traditions, one of your favorite Christmas carols or foods, or you could suggest a topic for tomorrow's 10-on-the-10th post. Just don't comment and tell me that you've finished your Christmas shopping because that would stir up all sorts of jealous and competitive feelings in me, and then I'd probably have to work doubly hard to NOT draw your name. ;)

I'll randomly choose a winner next Monday, November 15. I know lots of you already have this book but you can still enter to win; I'm sure you know someone who would love to read it! So, good luck, and peace out.

I will have you know that discombobulated is one of my absolute favorite words!!! :)

I LOVE the word discombobulated too...its sounds just like it feels.

We are having an Arizona Christmas this year, and one of my favorite things about Christmas at "home" is making tamales with my side of the family.

I quit twitter too. I still miss it...

I haven't quit Twitter, but I haven't logged in to it in quite a while. I agree...there's such a thing as too plugged in.

How about top 10 favorite lines from books?

And I'm trying so hard not to be envious of your snow. Hoping we'll see some here this year!

My comment to you is that November the 15th, the day you are choosing a winner, is my Mother's birthday. She does not have this book, so it would be a great gift for her.

I already have the book (thank you!) so no need to enter my name.

Wanted to tell you that if you "like" Wholly Guacmole on FB, you can get a coupon for $4 off! Enjoy. =)

I've never even looked at the Twitter site, but I know a lot of people enjoy it.

(I already have a copy so don't enter me!) I hadn't noticed that you aren't on twitter ... I have mostly quit tweeting, but I do like it for following a few companies/products that I like - it's a quicker way for me to get info than to get a newsletter from someone that clutters my email box. :)

Happy Mon-Tuesday! : )

I'm looking forward to all the fun Advent activities...well, I hope they will be fun, I'm still in the planning process!

But my almost 2 year old's face on Christmas morning will be truly the best part I think.

Thanks for the giveaway!

I understand about twitter...I will miss hearing tweets about you and your family!
I would love a chance to win this book! I'm reading and really liking the other book that you sent my way. I can't wait until I can actually review it so other people can read it and like it as well!
This year we will be in Colorado for Christmas! So I'm so excited about that! Lovin' the chance to get into the mountains with my family!
Oh, 10 on the 10th...man now I have to come up with something to write about...

The best thing about Christmas...Jesus! I know that sounds like a typical Sunday School answer, but I really mean it! Emmanuel, God with us! That truth is totally mind blowing and so very needed.

I'd love to read John's book!

I'd love to read this book!

I love a tradition we started last year- we pray for each family as we get their Christmas card in the mail.

I have not even come close to finishing my shopping but that's okay. It always works out in the end!

I can't just pick one favorite Christmas tradition! My family heads downtown to the Christmas parade and we always sit in front of The Roast Grill, which has the best hot dogs in Raleigh, NC. We also head to the mtns. to pick our Christmas tree and watch it get cut and then tied to our car. We listen to Christmas music all the way home. The last one is attending the Christmas Eve service at a beautiful church near our home (not our home church).

i love celebrating christmas - the traditions and memories, shopping with my mom, playing the music way to early for everyone else, baking cookies, making a few of my gifts; i think about it all year. this year we are in HUGE ministry transition and i'm finding that hard! guess i too need to really grab hard onto Emmanuel, God with us!

I did not celebrate Christmas last year...at least not in the secular sense...I'm always happy Jesus was born...last year, at Christmas, my husband, of almost 27 years, had been dead 2 months and 3 days, lights and color and music and gifts and trees and ornaments and crowds without my Don...I simply could not celebrate Christmas...somewhere along the way between last year and today I realized, remembered that Don and I had some pretty special Christmases...he proposed to me at Christmas time...he always shopped for me for Christmas...even when he was in a wheelchair...I mean how special is that...so I realized, remembered that celebrating Christmas is celebrating the time that Don and I had together...I enjoyed putting the season together for him...now I will learn to enjoy putting the season together for me and for the memories of him and Christmas past...(the last gift he gave me for Christmas is a beautiful ring that has engraved inside "past, present, future"...that pretty much says it all)

I don't have a favorite tradition, but my kids love our Christmas morning breakfast. Every year I make some bread from an old Taste of Home called Gift of the Magi Bread. I bake some of it in muffin tins with Christmas themed liners and then on Christmas morning we each put a birthday candle in our muffin and sing Happy Birthday to Jesus before we eat.

This year I was thinking about teaching the kids about Hannukah. My husband and I both had grandmothers who grew up Jewish but converted to other religions as adults, so I think it would be neat to teach the kids that part of their history.

I'm planning to read John's book again this year. I really enjoyed it last year.

I'm really looking forward to our days in Colorado. It's so relaxing and such a fun family time. I love having some time away where we can be together and focus on the season rather than on being so busy with holiday events.

I'm proud of you for quitting Twitter. I could never really get into it. However, I quit FB yesterday. I agree about being too "plugged in".

One of my fav. things about Christmas is Black Friday shopping with my Mom. Crazy, I know. But its not so much about the stuff. . . it's about the adventures we have year after year. I just love it!

Never did figure out what the big deal was about Twitter???

We have a new granddaughter so this year is going to be all about including her in our traditions. Although, she's not old enough to go shopping with me and Mom on the day after Thanksgiving, she will be. But we will be taking her to the Christmas Eve service at Highland Dr. Baptist Church with Mom & Dad. I always love going and getting to see everyone that I grew up with.

Hey Mer,
I haven't been to visit in months. I haven't been doing my blog land routine. Truth is I've hardly written a thing on mine these last couple of months. Don't know why all that is... but I'm glad to be here today.

Sounds like life is full to overflowing for you. Can't believe it's already snowing there. I guess I should after all you live high up in the rocky mountains.

Hmm... my favorite part of Christmas would have to be having all my children around. This year I will be missing one though as she is on her YWAM dts with her husband. It will be the first Christmas EVER without all my children home.

Hope all is well with you.

This year I am looking forward to shopping to bless families in our MOPs group, and going Christmas caroling with friends.
And reading THE BEST Christmas/Advent book ever!

Your husbands book sounds just wonderful. Right now I am reading The Christmas Sweater by Glenn Beck for my book club and I LOVE to read lots of different kinds of literature. Hope you all enjoyed our first Colorado snow last night. I love that it has stayed cold enough today that some of the snow is staying on the grass. I don't like to feel discombobulated, but it classifies our busy lives sometimes. I was so glad when we closed out our twitter account, but do like facebook. I really love the words simplify and solitude as I get older. Blessings to you and your family!

I hate to say this, but I've gotten more humbug about Christmas with each passing year. Our culture's tendency to make it about getting bugs me, and there is so much pressure to make it a big deal for 6 weeks. For a few years now, I've been gradually paring down our celebration. I no longer decorate my whole house. (In fact, I've gotten down to only 2 bins of Christmas supplies, when I used to have 5.) I don't do anything if it feels like a "have to." And we have started cutting way back on presents for our kids and extended family (a mutual decision for most). It's helping me recover some of my Christmas spirit.

What I am looking forward to the most this holiday season, spending 14 day in Hawaii with my kids, will probably be the last "just us" trip we take. So we plan to enjoy it~

One of my favorite traditions is cutting our tree in the mountains the day after Thanksgiving (reading Hope's comment, @ 1st I thought NewEveryAM wrote it...). "We girls" (NEAM) tell "the boys" (AKA: husbands) that it is all about the experience, not how quickly we can select the tree! We love to watch the kids running all around, in & out of the tree rows; the smell of the firs; the outdoor experience; & having family fun.

What I'll miss most this year: my son who is deployed.

What I'm thrilled about this year: I have a new daughter-in-love! (whose new husband is deployed...)

I haven't done any shopping or even thought about cards. I love the fall & Thanksgiving, so I'm not ready to start those yet.
But I would love to read the book, preparing my heart for the season to truly celebrate the birth of my precious Savior.

I would love to win your husband's book! And, good for you for quitting Twitter. I go on Twitter only every couple of days. My favorite Christmas tradition is going to cut down our Christmas tree the weekend after Thanksgiving!
