Happy Sad Crazy

Two blog posts in two days. I KNOW! Please don't faint.

Some things that have made me happy lately:
:::Catching up with friends at church and school after a busy summer!
:::Walking with my neighborhood posse in the evenings
:::Picking kids up from school and seeing smiles on their faces!
:::My adorable nephew is ONE YEAR OLD today!!! Happy Birthday, J!
:::Sunshine
:::Air conditioning
:::Spending time at the (almost completely deserted) pool while the kids are in school! And evening out my funky flip flop tan.

Some things that have made me sad lately:
:::Watching people compromise who they are to be liked and fit in with a certain crowd
:::Mean girls
:::Costco no longer sells the 4lb container of strawberries. It's a 2lb container instead. It means summer is on it's way out and is taking it's bounty with it. Sigh.
:::Will got new glasses this week and they're awful. He has one eye that has basically NO vision in it and when I took him for his checkup the doctor strongly encouraged him to wear glasses to protect his one good eye. He picked out some cool frames and was finally coming to terms with the fact that he needs to wear them regularly but when he put them on for the first time, the lens in his non-seeing eye makes that eye look four times larger than the other one. Not cool for an oh-so-cool 9th grader. I've got to call the eye doctor this afternoon and see what we can do to fix this.

Some things that have made me crazy lately:
:::Autocorrect. OH. MY. GOSH. I have a love-hate relationship with this feature. I love that it catches words I misspell when texting but I hate that it changes some words I DO spell correctly. John sent me a text this afternoon sharing some exciting news. I replied with the word: Woohoo! which autocorrect subsequently changed to Elohim! Now, I happen to know from my Old Testament classes in college that Elohim is a Hebrew name for God. John knows that too and was trying like crazy to figure out why I replied back with "GOD!" in Hebrew. Autocorrect is maddening.

:::Facebook. I know I'm in the minority but I don't love Facebook. I actually deactivated my account for a few weeks earlier this month in an attempt to step away from some drama and the people who were creating it. I'm back now, but it's starting to feel too much like Twitter to me. And you might recall that I'm a Twitter quitter.

:::People who think that certain rules don't apply to them. I SO want to elaborate on this one but I don't want to put myself in a bad mood.

:::Maybe I should have ended with my list of happy things. Oh well. I'm still happy and I hope you are too! And hey, it's hump day. Elohim! Woohoo!

"ELOHIM" craccckkkked me up!!!!!
Literally laughing at my computer screen right now. Thanks for the great laugh this afternoon. We're having a long weekend, so hump-day is even more thrilling today!

P.S. Wish I was sipping an iced tea with you at that deserted pool.

I too am a twitter quitter. On facebook, when I see any sort of drama I hide that person from my feed.

Woohoo--so funny!

You're not alone--am starting to like FB less and less. Haven't been on twitter, but don't think I'd like that either. Pinterest is what I'm loving now, though. :)

Love those flip-flop tan lines--he hee!

I think auto-correct is crazy...some of it makes no sense! I am also a iphone typing loser...i'm not good at hitting the right letters, so auto-correct saves me. But I still hate it.

and usually on FB I skim for the people I am really interested in and who don't have a lot of drama...I actually don't see much anyway. are you talking about passive-aggressive comments?

Anyway, I'm jealous of your pool time. Enjoy that last bit of summer!!

I'm 100% jealous that you get to sit poolside all by yourself. Livin' the life, Mer!

Gary and I got into a (rare) spat about Facebook the other day. I almost ended it all. (FACEBOOK - not Gary. I hope you knew that.) I'm oblivious to any drama in my FB world, but I need to find a way to step back and not spend so much time there.

Such a bummer about Will! I hope his eyesight remains stable and you can find some way to rectify his coolness. :)

Hey Mer! The exact same thing happened to us with Silas' glasses that we got in July. One lens was super thick- and made his eye look bigger. We immediately asked if they could order a thinner lens- and they sad yes. We got them about a week late- and they look great! Hope you can find something that works for Will.

I LOVE Facebook. I hate drama. I hide or unfriend drama causing people. My life is much too short to deal with other people's garbage.

Oh Mer, I miss you :) I'm going to catch up with you today (I think I'm behind on a handful of posts)... I need to get my coffee first. I'll be back.

I'm a twitter-quitter too. LOL.

Elohim!
That keeps making me laugh. It just may be my new word of celebration. It wouldn't be blasphemous if I had praise in my heart, right?

I don't like facebook either. :)

Mer, you're the one who got me on facebook! But you're right-it can get old. I find myself checking it less and less.

And I have some funny autocorrect stories, they're just not appropriate for a family blog:)

i'm catching up and was just reading through but the Elohim cracked me up so much that I had to stop and comment.

Is it a sign that I'm paranoid or just self-absorbed that whenever you quit Twitter/Facebook/etc. I hope it wasn't me? Am I the only 41 year old with such issues? Please tell me I'm not.

OK - the things that make you crazy list had me laughing out loud....especially Elohim! Thanks for the laugh today!
