Anniversary Week: Giveaway #4

Well, it's been snowy here in Colorado this week. We had a snow day yesterday, and I'm hoping our delay this morning is soon upgraded to a closure as well I just found out that schools are closed again today! Woohoo--back-to-back snow days! Snow days are so wonderful--even in October!

I always say that snow days are a gift because they force us to slow down and rest. Yesterday the kids and I stayed in our pjs, read, watched movies, drank lots of coffee and hot chocolate, made some crafty stuff for Halloween (hope to post pics this afternoon) and baked Snickerdoodles. I tried to get someone to play Farkle with me but couldn't get any takers. Sigh. The only thing that would have made our day perfect was if John were at home with us too. He's been out of town this week but should arrive home this afternoon. Woohoo!

Anyway, I'm rambling. Sorry.

Today's giveaway is what I'm calling my Snow Day Necessities Giveaway. It includes the following:
$10 Starbucks card (for hot, tasty beverages)
$1 to rent a Redbox movie (what's a snow day without a movie?)
Your choice of one of the following games: Farkle, LCR, or Scrabble Slam (Hopefully you can find someone to play with you.)

Leave me a comment and tell me what you'd do if you had a snow day today and you'll be entered in the Snow Day Necessities Giveaway.

And by the way, I feel compelled to draw your attention to the ads on my right sidebar. Those nice people pay me a little bit of money each month to display their ads on my blog. I don't make a ton of money, but it's nice to have some "mad money" to feed my Starbucks addiction or to go out for lunch with friends. This month, I'm using my earnings to pay for these fun prizes!!!

The fine print: Giveaway will close at 10pm on Saturday, October 31. Winners will be chosen at random and posted on Sunday, November 1. Contest is open to US and international residents. You don't have to have a blog to enter, but you must leave a way to be contacted should you win.

I'd sleep late, then drink lots of Earl Grey hot tea and Starbucks Columbian coffee and make a big pot of beans and some buttermilk cornbread for supper. :o)

We are having a "rain" day here in Central TX... Hubs is having a snow day trying to get out of Denver! I'd be drinking coffee on and off throughout the day... reading, puttering, just enjoying the quiet (snow makes everything quiet)... Enjoy your snow day if you get one! And pray that David is able to get here! We have our house inspection today!

We would stay in jammies and watch movies and read and snuggle, too. :) There would be diet coke and spice tea and chex mix in large quantities as well! Have a great snow day today!

Amber said...

The RIGHT answer would be that we would still knuckle down and do school...

The REAL answer would be that we would bundle up, build a snowman, then come in and snuggle up with books and snacks.

SOUNDS PERFECT!!

Snow days! How I love snow days!! I heard on NPR that Colorado and Wyoming was getting dumped on and thought of you! Lucky girl!! PJs are a must! Something baking is a definite. I usually will make a dessert and also bake Rhodes Rolls for dinner. A good book, a cozy blanket and a movie with my children piled on the couch around me. I can't wait for our first snow day but I'm sure by the time we get around to our 10th I'll probably be tired of it. Post pictures when you get a sec!!!

hi,
Similar interests, mutual respect and strong attachment with each other are what friends share between each other. These are just the general traits of a friendship.
To experience what is friendship, one must have true friends, who are indeed rare treasure.

I have added you to my blogroll, hope you can do the same thing for me so that we can have constant communication.

I would stay in my jammies, light the fire, drink hot tea and read. I love not needing an excuse to stay home!

P.S. - I was watching the Nuggets game last night & thinking of you, and wishing I was there. My hubby said that's where we need to move! Find us a job & a place to live, and we'll be right there!

So excited for your second snow day! Woo hoo! Seems just a pair of clean pajamas is all the day requires. ;)

Snow (of any appreciable measurement) is such an infrequent occurence here that the kids go nuts over it. And because of our climate, it's always that sloppy, wet, packable snow. So the day after a big snow here, you'll see 11ty-thousand snowmen lining the street. So after dealing with wet shoes (who has snowboots for one snow?), wet mittens, wet hats, and wet children, we too snuggle and watch movies, with popcorn and hot cocoa. When I can't get a game going with my kids, usually, they'll at least grace me with their presence for Guitar Hero. I get to sing or play bass.

I'm having a "Thurs-Day" here in Michigan, :)

But...if it were really a "snow day" I'd make Vanilla Chai tea, stay in my pjs, read my book (Jesus through Middle Eastern Eyes) and watch Dr. Phil.

Yay for snow days....or Thurs-days!!!

I only wish we had real snow days (in Alabama, they are few and far between). However, we sometimes declare our own snow day in the winter and curl up with books, hot something to drink, some movies and some popcorn!

Elizabeth said...

I cannot believe you're having all that snow. We're having rain, and it is depressing me. But it does give me a chance to practice for winter. Lots of coffee, Christmas music (snow makes me think of Christmas no matter when it is), and a thick novel. And lots of pumpkin bread!

We have so little snow here in Texas, but would get to stay home & catch up on cleaning *NOT*, reading & watching TV.

I totally think you should rig this so I win since I'M SITTING IN THE HOSPITAL HERE. That should count for something.

So if we had a snow day? (Which is really not possible since it's, you know, 51 degrees and a high today of 74) I'd still be in the hospital.

Snow Day how fun. If I had a snow day I would marvel at how beautiful the snow makes everything look outside, take a few pictures. Then sit by the fire with a good cup of coffee, watch a movie, read. Ahhh a snow day!

Janna Widdifield said...

We're enjoying our snow day, too. Last night we made my grandmother's homemade cake donut recipe. This morning, we all had hot tea (even Jack) and donuts for breakfast while we watched the snow fall.

JenB said...

Well, if we had a snow day today I'd probably have a heart attack b/c I'm pretty sure it has NEVER snowed in Charlotte in October! But I would LOVE it! We'd have cinnamon rolls and hot chocolate and take a walk. Probably to my friend Faith's to play Playstation or watch a movie. Life pretty much stops around here when it snows!

Melissa Stover said...

we're having a rain day today which is almost a snow day except not as pretty.

i'm going to catch up on laundry (i promise that is happening today) and stay inside.

Here is what we are doing on our 2nd snow day in a row: I am working (working from home does NOT give you a snow day). My boys just came in from playing in the snow, which of course I had to take pictures of....like they have never done it before :) My 16 year old is still sleeping, of course (it's 11am). The candles are lit. The fireplace is on. We are all wearing fuzzy socks. And, I am pondering what kind of soup to make for dinner....Teresa (teresasmarsh@msn.com)

Stephanie Kay said...

If we were all well, we'd put on snow gear and go outside and play. Lots of pictures would be taken since Sam was too little for snow last year and I have none of him in the white stuff. Then we'd come inside and do our regular work. Being homeschoolers has it's pros and cons. :)

Alisha said...

I'm a teacher and I would love a snow day! It's my 20 minute planning period right now so...why not spend 5 checking on blogs! I would make grilled cheese sandwiches, watch a movie and play games, of course!

Carpool Queen said...

I always catch up on laundry on snow days because running the dryer makes the house warmer.

And I make soup. Lots and lots of soup.

And I giggle a lot because I love days when I can't go anywhere- it makes me happy.

Jill said...

I think if we had a snow day here I'd FAINT - because it never snows that much! Thank you for ummm.....throwing my name in the hat!

Marilyn said...

Teachers like snowdays, too. And we are having one today out here on the eastern plains of Colorado!! It is a real blizzard with snow coming in from the north-sideways. I can't get out my back door because it's drifted shut. Thank goodness for nephews and neighbors who will be helping me dig out! What am I doing? Recovering from a cold with rest, doing laundry, dishes, and reading blogs! Love to visit you. Stop by for a visit and enter my giveaway!

Gretchen said...

I would let the kids play outside, take a ton of pictures (since it doesn't happen very much in NC) and then spend the rest of the day reading blogs.

Emily said...

Reading! And snuggling with my baby boy, of course!

Becca~CapturingSimpleJoys said...

For our snow day the kids are playing outside until they're too cold to do so and I'm baking!

Jackie said...

Well, I'd stay in my jammies all day, wrap myself in a blanket, watch movies and drink cocoa with Savannah, and then work on blog designs. So, basically exactly what I've done all day today. :)

Meredith, your giveaways rock - thank you!

Cathy said...

Since we Pacific NWies mostly get ice rather than snow...if we did get a snow day we would bundle up and make a snowman, of course! After we couldn't feel our fingers anymore, we would come inside and warm them back up on mugs of hot chocolate and then hunker down with anything warm and some games or movies!!

Just talking about it makes me want one NOW!!

So glad you're having a good time!

Meredith,
I heart Scrabble Slam ~~ so fun!!!

On snow days, a friend comes over and Dak and I and G play Mexican Train Dominoes for HOURS it is so much fun. We drink yummee cocoa and eat pretzels (I don't know why). But it's a lot of fun.

Hope your staying warm and that your hubby is home soon.

Blessings,
Dawn

I have both this post and your most recent post with the snow pictures up on my laptop right now. So I'm able to imagine a snow day very vividly.

My favorite things to do on a snow day are: play in the snow (duh), drink lots of hot chocolate and play games. I also like to make forts with the couch cushions and blankets; it's something we only allow on special occasions like a snow day.

I'm enjoying our 2nd snow day here in Ft. Collins by catching up on all my favorite blogs. Thanks for hte chance to win your snow day survival kit. Sounds like lots of fun!

Ah, a snow day... So long since I've experienced one of those. I'd join some friends within walkng distance by the fire, with hot chocolate and table games.

Hot chocolate. Popcorn. Movies.

Tiffani said...

girl, our snow days are more like "powder" days but I'll take them just the same...

We love putting on mismatched socks over our fingers (we don't have cold gear) and layering tons of clothes and a coat to run outside for 10 minutes. Hey, we're so thin skinned it's hard to stay out longer than that!!

I love making hot chocolate, eat my Mom's veggie soup and my absolute favorite part of a snow day...is "hearing" the snow...I've never heard a quiet like it is when there's snow all over the ground...it's beautiful.

I would knit, catch up on my DVR recordings, watch Anne of Green Gables, sled with my kid, make soup and cookies, and wish I had a fireplace in my house.

Dee Dee said...

I would finish redoing my bedside table. I've only gotten the drawer painted, and I'm really missing a place to put all my handy stuff! I really also want to learn to knit and/or crochet, but that's probably a little too much for one day!! I'm sitting and waiting a lot - soccer, dance, playdates, and I want something productive to do besides making a grocery list or reading...

Betsy said...

If I had a snow day today, I would definitely catch up on some sleep, read my stack of magazines that has been patiently waiting for me, watch a movie or two, sip some hot chocolate with marshmallows and maybe work a puzzle! I'm so jealous of you!! ;)

I would be sitting by the fire reading a book and drinking hot chocolate while E watches a movie. Play some Candyland or Yahtzee Jr then head outside w/Ethan. Perfect ending to the day would be potato soup!

If we had a snow day - in October - after the initial shock, we'd probably curl up with our blankets on the couch, watch movies, maybe break out some games. then I'd probably start to feel guilty and think I should clean out the coat closet or something useful!

Trish said...

arrghhhh, I just had a nice long comment written out and I lost my internet connection....grrrr.

Okay, so a snow day here (which I hear is rare) would likely have us baking, reading, eating popcorn and drinking hot cocoa!

Yay for blog advertisements!!

We love to bake something fun and sugary for breakfast, stay in our pj's, watch movies, and then the kids can't take it anymore and we go play outside!

What a fun giveaway. I was thinking of giving Eric Scrabble Slam for Christmas based on your recommendation!

I didn't really answer the snow day question, I guess, but since my kids aren't in school yet, I don't think the day would look much different around here. =)

Amy said...

Well, what I though I'd do: laundry, organize, clean, craft, bake...

What I actually did: played in the snow, drank Hot Cocoa, napped, & snuggled with my family. I think I chose right! :)

Christie said...

Hot chocolate with yummy creamer, PJs all day, and lots of snuggles...then, after playing in the snow we'd hit the books!

Lori Harper said...

Man, how I wish it would snow in Arkansas...at least for Christmas! I would curl up on the couch with some hot chocolate and some magazines and let my kids do puzzles in the living room floor.

Holly said...

I did have a snow day today! We made a snowman and are about to have cocoa. This afternoon, I will watch an old movie and knit some Christmas gifts (which may be next Christmas at the rate I'm going!).

Unknown said...

My boys and I would probably have a PJ day and they would then hound Dad to take them out in the snow for a 4-wheeler sled ride :) I could always catch up on some of my scrapbooking...maybe throw in some cookie baking. Ah, it would be wonderful!

If I had a snow day I would cry.
I live where there is no snow- usually- and I chose it on purpose.
After I was done crying, I would start a big fire, a big pot of split pea soup, and watch all the episodes of lost that I keep sleeping through.

mom2themonkeys said...

We would totally play in it since we never get snow in southern southern California

Jennifer said...

Wake up, bathe the kids, put on fresh jammies, make homemade muffins for breakfast, play some games, eat lunch, watch a little movie and send those angels to bed for a nap. THEN, climb in my bed (did I mention that I'm also in my jammies?) and read a good book.

Deena said...

I love snow days!! We love to build a fire and watch movies. At some point in the day, we play outside then come in and warm up with hot chocolate. We also make snow ice cream. We don't do anything original, but we always enjoy those days.

Stacey said...

snow days in texas are rare, but....i would make a warm yummy breakfast, play christmas music, and do crafts with kids.

If I had a snow day today, I would pull out the space heater, stay in my PJ's, drink coffee and finish the good novel I am currently reading! Yay snow days!

On a snow day I would love to start off reading in bed, stay in my jammies, have a family snuggle, watch a movie, snack on popcorn, and have a long hot bath!

I wish it would be resting with hot chocolate and movies...but I would probably clean out a few closets!
