I've lost that loving feeling...

I'm just not feeling much love for blogging lately.

I've been thinking lately of shutting the whole thing down. That's drastic, I know, and I'm not really a drastic person so I doubt I'll shut it down forever.

But I AM going to step away from the self-induced pressure to post something every. single. day. I'm also stepping away from the self-induced pressure to comment on every. single. post. I. read. I'm even going to clear my google reader and not give another thought to what I might be missing. (My reader has over 200 unread posts and even though I keep making headway, ya'll keep blogging and killing my progress!)

So...I'll see ya when I see ya. And I hope you have a happy weekend!

You absolutely can't shut the whole thing down! How will you be able to scrapbook years past without your virtual notes & timeline?!

But, I agree on the pressure thing. Don't feel guilty, Mer, it's YOUR blog - use it if/when you want to.

Don't shut down Twitter, too!!!

I feel ya on the pressure. And I'm with Moriah...it's your blog -- use it when you want to. We'll all still be here.

It's you're blog, and you'll blog when you want to! No pressure or anything. It's time to relax and just be.

I agree. No pressure-induced blogging. It isn't fun then. (And as you know, I'm preaching to the choir in that statement.)

I think most of us need to be reminded that most of our readers get our blogs via feed. That means, they'll (we'll) see it when you write. And when you don't? I don't even think about it.

I think the recommendation of "one post a day" was more relevant when people checked sites one at a time. Back then, it was disappointing to find the same old. But these days? It doesn't even phase me.

I'm right there with you. I'm going off-line for the month of July to refocus on my priorities and family life. This is tough for me because I really love blogging. But it is necessary. Let me just say, this branch does NOT like pruning!!

Mer,

Sounds a lot like the post I wrote back in January: http://watibg.blogspot.com/2009/01/blahg.html

Thanks for keepin' it real--it's one of the reasons I'm so drawn to your blog.

Mer...I feel ya. I do. Don't know why, but maybe it's b/c my relational needs are being served by TwitFacing, so the creative writing outlet is less needy. Not sure.

Could also be that you're just plumb emotionally worn out, and it takes a lot to relate to so many folks when you read and want to be "present" for them.

Good for you, Mer, for taking the time you need and for realizing that you don't have to post every day. I'm at that same place right now - I just went 3 weeks without posting, and honestly didn't really even miss it. Sometimes we just need to step back. But seriously, I'd miss you so much if you quit for good! :)

Great words from the writer of the post...

Take all the time you need!

You have no idea how many times I've wanted to do that same thing! Step back girlfriend and enjoy the time NOT blogging.

But I do hope you come back. :)

Take a little sabbath, drink some of that good joe your man makes (guy must be an absolute saint), go to Durango for some vacation time, and return to the keyboard when it's time...maybe it'll be blogging and then it might be writing a book like your man thinks you can (guy must have no Shame for mentioning something like that)...

Good for you.

yeah....I get like that. I only post when I feel like it. Sometimes once a week and sometimes several times a week. But if you decide to shut it down..we will miss you AND you really should get it all printed into a book. There are several good sites out there.
hope to hear from you again soon...

I'm right there with ya, Mer. I haven't blogged in for-evah. When it stops becoming "fun," you know it's time to take a break. :)

I agree with many in that I have you in a google reader so when you decide to post again I'll be there reading!
I've taken a break this summer from not only posting as frequently but also from commenting so much and it's been very freeing!
The two weeks we were in Arkansas I rarely even sat in front of a computer and didn't miss it one bit. I enjoy reading the blogs in my reading, it's like getting a letter from a friend and I've taken the pressure off myself to respond to every "letter".
I hope you don't shut it down as I would really miss you!!

The comments here are great, and so true. If blogging=pressure, it's no fun. And you are the one it should be the most fun for!

The book idea sounds perfect for you!

Amber is a doll. I wish you could have been there while we chatted away. Next time you're in Arkansas, ok?

I agree....leave the pressure alone, but don't shut down completely! Just blog when the mood strikes...lol..that's what I do...which some days is rarer than others!

I'm totally right there with you right now! I don't want to NOT blog because it is a neat record for my family of things that we want to remember, but I am sooo not bothered about making it a daily thing...and about no leaving lots of comments on blogs that I read! Yea for you! :)

I agree with John...smart guy that.

Proud of you, Mer. Blogging should not be guilt driven... Sometimes posting status stuff on FB is an easier way to keep in touch. Let me know when/if you ever write a book.

Mer,

Just popped on to say I finally got around to making your "Imperial Chicken" recipe it was a HUGE hit with my whole family! :) I'm impressed you know how to target a recipe to the picky age range that my big kids are (2 1/2 and 5 1/2) and my hubby! Imperial Chicken will now be on our family favorite list! I was happy it didn't call for a ton of ingredients and it was fairly easy for this simple beginner cook!

Thanks so much! I really appreciate you sharing all the cooking tips and recipes! Can't wait to try more of your recipes! You are the BEST! :)

This is ME lately. So I totally understand. But I agree with what many said already. Blog when and if you want and feel no guilt when you don't want. I'm so behind on my blog reading too, but I will definitely keep reading yours no matter how infrequently you blog.

I'm with you.

I've lost the loving feeling as well.

But I'm hoping it will come back.

Take a break....we'll be here!
