10 on the 10th!

I'm listy, you guys. I make lists all the live long day. Writing things down helps me not have to work so hard to remember them. You're the same way, right? Please say yes.

Lately I've been writing down things that bug me because it seems that if I write them down, then they bug me less.

My list is growing LONG though which leads me to believe that I am easily annoyed.

Thought I'd share 10 things from my list with you.

10 Things That Really Annoy Me:

1. Solicitors outside of stores.
Really, I would just like to walk in Walmart or the grocery store and not be asked if I'd like to buy popcorn or a subscription to the Gazette or raffle tickets or if I'm registered to vote in Colorado. It seriously bugs me. And for the record, I was not a fan of our Brownie troop selling cookies in front of Walmart last February for this very reason. But I did it, and now I feel guilty for ranting about this.

2. Opening a new bottle/jar/box/tube of something before the old one is used up.
Last week I discovered three containers of dishwasher detergent under my sink. Three. Seriously? One was almost empty, one was half empty, and one was brand new.

I also have two opened jars of peanut butter in my pantry (do you keep peanut butter in the fridge or pantry?). And don't even get me started on shampoo, soap, and toothpaste.

3. Stickers from produce on the sink, countertops, and floor.
You know the stickers that come on fresh produce that have the upc number or code on them? Well, somehow in my house they end up stuck to my kitchen sink, or the counter, and sometimes the kitchen floor. Seriously? Why not the trash can?

4. Dog hair. Everywhere.
Beagles don't shed nearly as much as other breeds, but wow. It's just gross. I have a small fortune invested in Scotch pet products and I still have to vacuum daily.

5. Non-Reply Commenter
I have quite a list of blog/Facebook things that bug me but this is at the very top of my list. People, people, people PLEASE configure your profile on Blogger (other platforms too) so that when you leave me a comment I can reply to you. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to reply to comments on this blog only to see these three words pop up: non-reply commenter. That means that I cannot reply to you via email no matter how much I want to. Here are the instructions for correcting this. I am begging you for the love of all things good, please go and do this. Please.

6. Clean Laundry in the Dirty Clothes Bin.
I'm sure this never happens at your house, but sometimes my children neglect to put their clean laundry away and somehow it ends up on the floor or under the bed and the dog lays on it or rifles through it and it ends up in the dirty clothes bin again. I'm not a fan of extra laundry.

7. Wastefulness.
I hate wasting food, especially in restaurants. I hate wasting time. I hate wasting energy/electricity. I hate wasting gas. I really hate wasting money.

8.Toothpaste in the sink.
I'm sure this never happens at your house either.

9. Spots on stainless steel.
The only stainless appliance we have is our coffeemaker. Thank goodness. Because fingerprints and water spots on it drive me
C-R-A-Z-Y. Just ask my husband. I gave him the "will you please try and be more careful so I don't go insane wiping this appliance down twice a day?" speech. Trust me, he wasn't loving me in that moment. But the spots have been fewer. Thanks, J.

10. Not being able to find things in my house.
I spent 30 minutes on Saturday looking for one of Sarah's sweater coats. How do you lose something like that? I also spent way too much time today looking for my cell phone. I emailed John and asked him to call me but that was useless since I'd set my phone to silent mode. Finally found it in the van. Last week I couldn't find my sunglasses (Abbey "borrowed" them) and one of my craft punches. Our house isn't very big...I just don't know why I can't keep up with things better!
-------------------------------------------------

Sorry if this list sounds like I'm whiney and grumbly. I try to keep things positive most of the time, but this list was begging to be posted.

-------------------------------------------------

If you want to play along, I'd love to have you. Just post a list of ten things (anything you can think of) and link to your blog post below!

We have many of the same annoyances, and it makes me laugh. These things ARE annoying! Especially the wastefulness-it makes me crazy when people leave lights on or water running. It makes my stomach hurt and I become Mean Mommy.

Any suggestions for my 10 on the 10th this month? I am totally out of ideas,

#5 !!!!!!!! Please oh Please change the world with that one.

#6 I thought only my kids did that.

#10 hello, welcome to the house of chaos.

You know I'm a list-sister, friend. I heart lists... all lists. every single kind of list.

I am easily annoyed as well. Phone calls after 8? RUDE unless necessary or invited. Kids who knock on the door to play outside in the dark? RUDE. Beagles who string trash all over my house four days in a row? DEAD MEAT who get served trash laced with CAYENNE PEPPER mwah ha ha!

As for clean clothes in the dirty bin? INFURIATING. Found one ATTACHED TO A HANGER the other day.

here's something that tops my list of things I love.... YOU.

Hm. You're welcome for guest posting on your blog for 10 on the 10th. I'm sure your list would have looked IDENTICAL to mine....;)

I'm with you on solicitors. I feel like the Grinch walking past all those poor cheerleaders, scouts, youth groups, and people trying to feed the starving children and not donate. The only one I give to is the Salvation Army, despite their annoying bells.

Our lists could have been identical if I ever make up a list of gripes!

YES!

You know I'm listy too. Love that. "Listy." I'm totally going to steal that.

And I'm with you on every single item on your list. Except the dog hair. Since Daisy died, it's just cat hair. Which may be worse.

And my children put clean laundry in the hamper ON PURPOSE. Why? Because they are too lazy to hang it up. And don't even get me started on the state of their drawers. AHHH!

And then there's crumbs on the counter when T makes PB&J every night before bed. USE A PLATE!

Love you, girl!
Joanne

Not a fan of solicitors either. I finally put up a sign on my door because they come by in our neighborhood so much. I think because we are a corner house and are a great spot to put a sign in the yard for advertising. No thanks. :) And, if our girl scout troup ever gets off the ground, my husband is not into N1 selling cookies at Walmart so we probably won't do it. (Plus since they are kindergarteners I don't feel too bad about that).

I have become a list maker so I can remember things...right now I'm blaming it on pregnancy! I'm w/you on #1, #7, & #10 but unfortunately it is usually me who misplaces things! Right now trying to find 3 bottles of tylenol I bought for dirt cheap 2 weeks ago...how in the world do you misplace tylenol? Odd things that annoy me: wasting toothpaste, and spots on my glass dishes. They MUST be run thru the dishwasher so they come out shiny & spotless!

You don't know how good it makes me feel to know that you lose stuff in your house and that you have to rewash clean clothes. Because that is my life every.day.

Love you list. I'm with you on SO many of them.

Girl, no problem.... sometimes we just need to get it out, haha!!!! :)

Love this list! I think it would almost exactly mirrors my own list of annoyances, except for the #7 since I don't blog! How about an e-mail address - rlbraden@tsncpa.com

Our pet peeve list is quite similar....

I especially loathe the toothpaste issue. And it isn't just about it bein gin the sink. Recently the kids bath looked as if somebody had had a fight witht he tooth paste...and lost.

Mary said...

You really should get out of my head. There isn't room in there for both of us. LOL

I was the one selling popcorn and I HATE doing that. Two jelly jars with one scoop out in the fridge. Ugh. Stickers from apples on the windowsill this morning. I wash clean laundry daily. Have drank Diet Coke cans..don't get me started. I could brush my teeth for a month with the wasted toothpaste I find in the sink. Found cell phone in the cup holder of the lawn chair in my trunk. That took some time. So glad I'm not alone.

#2, 7, 3, 8, and 10 are definitely top of my list. . . Ugghhh for all of these. I love random lists like this b/c years from now when you go back and look at the things that bother you, you may not remember them being such a big deal.

I could (and did) say amen! to almost everything on your list!!!

Dog hair topping it off....I have an aussie..another word for "hair factory". If I didn't worry that it would scar her emotionally (I know it's just a dog), I would shave her!!!

clean clothes in the laundry...I fixed that problem!! Everyone in my house now does their own laundry!! woot!

opening a new bottle....while frustrating, most of the time I can only blame myself! :)

Jacquie said...

Oh YES on #6! Been there, done that.

One of my pet peeves is when some "others" in my house "help" with laundry and move clothes from the washer to the dryer and DRY all my clothes that I hang dry! Ugh!!!! I want to seriously hurt someone when that happens! I found one of my heavy sweater coats in the dryer this weekend!! Maybe you should look for Sarah's there. Ha!

Good for you on the sugar withholding, Mer!

Jacquie said...

PS. I love that you are so PASSIONATE about the no-reply commenters. That just cracks me up! Thank goodness I'm a rules girl...

Amen to #4,6, &8 especially
I'm joining the par-tay today!

I can sympathize with the dog hair. We inherited my mom's dog. This dog is a mutt and shed's ALL THE TIME every season. No wonder I used to find dog hair when I ate at mom's. Ewwwwwww!! I finally bought a roomba that I'm hoping will help me keep up with it.

Enjoyed your post. Enjoyed posts by the others too. Looks like I'll be following a few more blogs!

loved this list and actually almost did a pet peeve-ish list myself...

I agree w/ a good many of these but the one I am MOST nuts about on your list though is: the.dog.hair.

Oh dear me. It's a daily battle and the thing is no matter how HARD you work to keep it at a minimum that's all it will ever be is minimally cleaned...and I'll see one on the counter and think: EWWW. But, we're CLEAN and our dog is CLEAN!! Oh well?!

The new cat is a bit of a shedder. I forgot what it was like to have to roll myself before walking out the door. Fortunately, he's not too cuddly yet and he's black and it's winter and I'm wearing dark clothes.

Love ya', and thx for your encouragement today.

I also joined in a couple of the other blogs I write on...My family would like to make CO our future home...as soon as my husband is available to do that with medical school.

I love your list, Mer. Like everyone who has commented before me, I can relate to almost every single one. I think you hit a pet peeve nerve among us all!

I just can't relate to the dog hair one since we don't have a dog. However, I can tell you that's the number one thing I DON'T miss about having one, and the number one thing that's keeping me from getting another one! (I've had puppy fever lately.)

Oh, and peanut butter goes in the pantry. Is there any other way? I guess there is if you like stiff tear-your-bread-into-pieces peanut butter. ;)

Kecia said...

Amen, sister! And candy wrappers on the floor are just as bad as produce stickers--maybe worse, because at least produce was healthy! And sometimes I wonder why I even buy laundry hampers. And the wastefulness thing--I'm convinced that's why I do things like eat the cake I ate at church today, just because it was offered.
And yes, I'm a list-maker. And a timer-setter.

Kecia said...

And I keep my peanut butter in the pantry.

Gina said...

PLEASE NEVER COME TO MY HOUSE AND ASK TO TAKE A SHOWER!!!! The vast array of bottles would make you crazy!
That said, I hate finding 3 bottles of anything else. And apple stickers? Don't get me started....
We do have 2 open jars of peanut butter in the pantry at all times, though, because my youngest and I are creamy, and everyone else is crunchy.

Gina said...

Oh, and my biggest pet peeve? Incessant tapping from pencils or other objects or someone "bouncing" thier foot when I can feet the wiggling.

Carrie B said...

Love your list! Now I'm not so sure about wanting that stainless steel cooktop. hmmm
And the whole comment reply thing, so confusing to me. I'd really like to reply to some comments but not quite sure how to do so if there's no email. ugh

Two things: #3 Do you remember the little green price tags that Wal Mart used to put on EVERYTHING?
#9. You should try a stainless steel trash can. OH BOY!

Brenda said...

I'm in agreement with most of those but especially #3 and #9.
My husband and daughter would put their stickers on the dishsoap bottle. Geez! I say, really guys the trash is right under the sink where you're standing. Then they started doing it just to bug me!
#9-Having a housecleaning business has shown me a lot of things I DO NOT want in my home. The biggest is stainless steel appliances. I don't care how shiny they are. Drives me nuts to clean them!

Moriah @ Please Pass the Salt said...

Your list is hilarious.

First of all, though, I ADORE girl scouts outside of Walmart. That's the only way I get my GS cookie fix some years since we really don't know any girl scouts (locally).

HATE dirty laundry in the clean clothes bins. Dirty laundry goes in the HAMPER. And yes, I realize you were talking about the other way around. :)

Leah Belle said...

this post made me giggle! i have a few pet peeves myself.

perhaps John should get you a NON stainless steel coffee maker for Christmas? :)
