Alive and Well (Sorta)

I get so cracked up at all the email comments I get when I don't post for a few days. Thanks for the concern, friends. I'm alive, but just trying to get my family well. This is the 10th straight day that one of my kids has had fever. Ten long days of playing nurse and giving ibuprofen and cough syrup and popsicles and Sprite...and you get the picture. Abbey is much better and has been back at school this week, but her big sister is feeling poorly and will likely be home with me again tomorrow.

John worked from home today so that I could get out of the house and do my normal Tuesday stuff. I was extremely thankful.

Other than that, there hasn't been too much going on around here.

(Warning: I begin to ramble on and on from now to the end of the post)
Will got a new game for the Wii. It's Wii Play and it's pretty fun. I spent most of this afternoon perfecting my laser hockey and table tennis, and I'm quite certain I can beat him now. He's definitely up for the challenge, but he doesn't like to lose. At all. Should be a fun after-dinner event.

I introduced Sarah to Jane Austen a month or so ago when I let her watch Sense and Sensibility with me. She lost interest early on, but yesterday while home with me I talked her into watching Pride and Predjudice. I hadn't seen the new version and it arrived from Blockbuster.com, so we curled up in my chair and watched it together. I liked it, but not as much as the BBC version, and Sarah thought it was "okay". She did ask me to pause it mid-way thru and in her best British voice said, "Mother, I don't get it." And once I explained what was going on she stuck with me to the end. She DID NOT like Mrs. Bennett...said she talked too much and was way too silly. I couldn't agree more.

We watched the Academy Awards on Sunday night. I don't think I've ever felt so disconnected. I hadn't seen one single film that was nominated for Best Picture. Not one. So sad. I didn't even have a favorite to cheer for. I DID know (and love) all the songs from Enchanted that were nominated, and I love the song from Once that won. In fact, I spent yesterday downloading them all from iTunes. Believe it or not, that was a first for me. My first iTunes download.

Okay...I think I must end this post. I can't think of anything else even remotely interesting to mention here. And I'm quite sure you don't want to know about what we're having for dinner, or what the weather is like here, or my exciting grocery shopping trip last week. Believe me, the excitement would overwhelm you!

It's a good thing this stuff isn't contagious through the web, Mer. I swear, I think every single blog I've read today has a whole houseful of sick people. Ten days. Good grief, I'll bet it WAS exciting to go grocery shopping.

I think I'm not leaving my house. I'm scared. Everyone else in the whole wide world is sick!

Seriously, I hope you all get over this stuff soon and life gets back to normal.

Were you surprised to wake up to see snow this morning? I sure was!

Praying for Sarah to feel better really soon!

I, too, liked the BBC version better, but when we talked, I didn't want to color it at all for you. The story is good to me, though, so I really enjoyed watching a new version.

Hello Meredith, glad to hear you got out a bit (hope Bunco was fun). A day curled up with Blockbuster sounds like a good way to fight off germs. I wanted to thank you for the Stash Tea info, I actually got out yesterday and bought two (neither one was what you recommended) but the store owner told me a new shipment is on it's way. Still, any Stash tea is wonderful, wonderful so thanks!

I hope your house is on the mend. Where is spring????

I couldn't agree more about the Oscars. I didn't watch this year because I haven't been able to relate to it for the past couple of years. I must not have 'Oscar taste' because I've never seen the movies that are nominated. Where was Alvin and the Chipmunks and The Bee Movie, I ask you??? :)

Joel told me last night some kind of bug is going around at work. This week 2 guys on his row (think giant room with rows of cubicles)have been out from "It". I told him if he brings sickness into my house he will be sleeping in the garage! With the mice and cold!

In other thoughts, you can't top BBC Pride & Prejudice!

My husband and I have been taping the PBS Pride and Prejudice and watched part one evening after dinner. My son(9) and daughter(7) were drawn to it... we were surprised at their interest. The other night they even asked if we remembered to tape the third (and last) part!

Mer,

Glad you checked in.

I'm with you on the AAs this year. I only watched a bit because I hadn't heard of half the movies! I didn't realize that song from Once received an award--love it!

We have Wii Play and love it. My favorite is bowling. We also got Carnival, and it is almost as fun. A little too exciting right before bed, but perfect to play as a family after dinner.

I only saw Atonement. Didn't see the others because either it wasn't worth it to get a sitter, or we just didn't think they were anything special. I did like Jon Stewart, though. I also loved the red gowns.

Drama Girl is home for her 2nd day of fevah. Woke up at 4 a.m with 102. I honestly almost sent her to school because she was eating and looked great last night.

I'm a movie girl, too. I have all my faves that I watch while quilting or scrapping. Of course that seems to be less and less often lately, but I try to jam it in whenever I can.

Take care.

I L.O.V.E. Pride and Prejudice...both versions! I have watched them over and over! Be sure and watch the new one once with commentary. It is interesting.

Maybe the reason we feel disconnected from the Oscars is because we are disconnected from the world....that's a good thing.

I am glad to be caught up on your blog.

I too was out on the Oscars - I thought it was pretty boring (FF through most of it - except the songs). I loved the song from Once and hearing their acceptance speeches. I now want to see that movie b/c I enjoyed the song so much.
