10 on the 10th!

This has been so much fun to do every month! I love how many of you have wanted to link up with your own 10 on the 10th posts. They're so much fun to read and I'm amazed at how creative some of you are with your lists!

I actually had a hard time coming up with ten things this month. In the end I went with an easy one--My 10 Favorite Family Games.

We love playing games together as a family, though it does seem like we do more of that in the winter months than in the summer. Here is my list of faves:

1. Apples to Apples. We don't have the kids' version, but my kids have been able to play this version successfully. We usually end up with some really odd answers!

2. Cadoo. We've had this for a few years and Abbey was even able to play it (with some help) when she was 3. The only downside to this game is that it's for four players. And we're a family of five.

3. Connect Four. A classic favorite. Will & Sarah finally figured out my strategy so I don't win nearly as much anymore.

4. iMAgiNiff. Very fun (and funny) but best played with lots of people!

5. Blokus. This is my most favorite game EVER. Seriously. I'm the reigning champ at my house and sometimes I even play online.

6. The Game of Life: Twists and Turns Edition. Some friends gave us this game last year and it's AWESOME. There's no money to keep up with, everything is electronic. It's great for teaching kids about saving, planning, rewards and consequences. It's another four person game, so we usually play as teams.

7. A - Z, Jr. by Discovery Toys. Another great learning game. Abbey was playing this game with us in preschool and I am convinced it helped her master some early reading skills. (By the way, I'm a huge fan of Discovery Toys).

8. Set. We got this card game for Christmas. It's different, but fun and very challenging. I also play this game online too!

9. Scattergories. We also have the kid version of this, but my kids prefer the adult game. The kid version is too easy for Will and Sarah, but even Abbey can play this game with us.

10. Yahtzee! Who doesn't love Yahtzee???

If you want to join the fun, post a link to 10 on the 10th POST (not your blog) below. If you have questions or need help, email me. Also, feel free to copy and paste the graphic above into your post. Have fun! I can't wait to see what your 10 on the 10th post holds.

*Don't worry if you don't actually post on the 10th. I'll leave Mister Linky open for a day or so longer since the 10th falls on Mother's Day this month.

Have you tried Sequence? It's fun as well. I bought SET because you recommended it, and I got schooled by my spatially oriented 3rd grader. And my husband. They love it. I have conveniently stuffed it to the back of the game closet.

I keep saying I need to buy SET. We used to play it at Providence.

Mer, now I want to buy several of the ones you have on your list. Especially Blokus. I love games; I don't know why we don't play them that often. Especially since we have a whole closet shelf full of them.

I may institute a regular game night in our family. I'm the Queen so I can make such edicts!

Oh, I love to play games! What a great post! I want to second CPQ's recommendation of Sequence. They have a kids version, too.

Blokus online?!? I may never get my housework done if I ever get on that site. :)

Happy Mother's Day!

OVER-ACHIEVERS!!!! Sorry. It just came out. MY OCD self can't handle the fact that all of you have already finished your 10 on the 10th and I haven't even started yet and probably won't be done until late tomorrow night...when in some time zones it won't even be the 10th!!

...have I scared you all off from being my friend yet??

...I like games. As long as I win. Just kidding. Kinda.:)

Great one, Mer!

Well...I just bought...er the Easter Bunny hopped by with SET for my daughter. Can't wait to try it, and can't believe we haven't yet.

And if you haven't played Pass the Pigs, you haven't lived. And someone who lurves Razorbacks should have this in her collection of faves. IMHO.

Game nights and reading out loud. Two faves.

We are a big game family too. We have a huge closet full of them. Apples to Apples is one of my faves!

I have you to thank for my addiction to Set.

I'm learning Blokus as we speak.

We love Connect Four and Yahtzee.

Can't wait to try Apples to Apples.

We love games, but only have one of the games you mentioned. I'll have to look into Set and Blokus.

And I confess--Yahtzee is one of my least favorite games!

Happy Mother's Day, Mer!

Thanks for stopping by! Where did you live in Arkansas? I've wanted to try Apples to Apples for awhile, making a mental note to pick that one up!

Didn't get a chance to get around to this, this month, but I'll be back next month :)

I like Set.
I tried to play Imaginiff with my sister and our kids and it was PAINFULL!
We tend to play Phase 10 a lot (Me and my sisters and brothers-in-law) but we don't let our kids play because we are way too competitive!

I loved Connect 4 as a kid. I was just telling my husband I want to get it for my oldest to play.

Yahtzee is one of my favorite games to play with my husband. It reminds me of my grandmother and playing with her when I was younger.

Those are some great oldies I forgot about and some I have never heard of. Will have to remember to come back here.

We just bought Trouble and it's a blast. Dominic is 6 and it's hilarious to see him go from tears (when I've bumped him back home) to sweet revenge. "I don't know whether to stay close to Mommy's piece and hug her or GET HER WITH MY NEXT ROLL!!!!) Hilarious.

I always miss the 10 on the 10th (although, truly, I haven't been blogging much at all lately!). Anywho, guess what I just found for 25 cents at a yard sale this morning? Connect Four! So...that means I have to ask -- what's the strategy I'm supposed to be employing?
