10 on the 10th!

With the exception of our SNOW day on Wednesday, it was nice enough for me to hit the trail for some outdoor exercise every day this week. I prefer to exercise with friends but that doesn't always work out so on the days I'm alone my iPod keeps me company.

I have very eclectic taste in music. This week I was all about the 80s. While putting together an 80s playlist, I decided that my 10 on the 10th post would be ten of my favorite 80s songs. These are in no particular order, and just so you know, this isn't an all time favorite list. I have dozens if not hundreds of favorite 80s songs!

Ten of My Favorite 80s Songs

1. Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler
I love this song, but I love this explanatory flow chart more. Click the graphic to enlarge it.

2. Hard Habit to Break by Chicago
I actually wore my Chicago 17 cassette tape out and had to buy a new one in college. It's long gone now though so I bought it on iTunes last fall. It still gets lots of play when I'm feeling nostalgic.

3. Billie Jean by Michael Jackson
The only MJ album I have is the one that has this song on it.

4. Addicted to Love by Robert Palmer
How many of you see the music video in your head when you hear this song? Racy.

5. Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel
I've been told this is not a nice song, but that doesn't make me love it any less.

6. Livin' On a Prayer by Bon Jovi
Remember back in November when Sarah bought a Bon Jovi t-shirt at the St. Louis Hard Rock Cafe?  Well, a few weeks ago in church I looked over and noticed that Sarah had taken off her hoodie and was sporting the Bon Jovi t-shirt. I was horrified. Our church is very casual, but Bon Jovi? In church? Really? What kind of mother lets her daughter wear a Bon Jovi shirt to church? One that is obviously livin' on a prayer.

7. Footloose (from the movie soundtrack)
This is another song/cassette that I completely wore out. I don't have the album any longer, but I get really excited when I hear one of the songs come on the radio and I turn it up (loud) and sing (louder). My kids are horrified when I do this. They've perfected the rolling of the eyes.

8. Sweet Dreams by The Eurythmics
Who are *you* to dis-a-gree?

9. Manic Monday by The Bangles
I find myself singing this on a lot of Monday mornings. Old habits die hard.

10. Wake Me Up Before You Go Go by Wham!
It's a totally stupid song, but nothing brings back my memories of MacArthur Jr High school faster than this song.
Seriously, I could keep listing 80s song after 80s song. I heard When Doves Cry by Prince the other day and found myself singing every word, while thinking it would be much more appropriate to be singing it while wearing a raspberry beret and driving a little red corvette in the purple rain. (Thanks for indulging me with that).

Ironically, while typing this post my husband has his 70s music cranked up. (Le Freak by Chic is playing right now!)  But he's cleaning up the breakfast dishes so I'll let the 70s stuff fly. (I MUCH prefer the tunes of the 80s to the 70s).

One more thing: My parents were super strict about the music I listened to growing up. I had to sneak my non-Christian music into the house/car. Madonna tapes were usually labeled "Russ Taff" or "DeGarmo and Key". But they sometimes disappeared so I think my mom might have been on to me. [Sorry, mom. Love you!]

Link up if you'd like! Peace out, peeps!

Fun list, Mer. I confess I'm not familar with a couple of those. Since I was born in '79, I'm more nostalgic for early 90s music. =)

i have to say i didn't even like 80s music in the eighties and i sure don't like it now. i prefer 70s like your husband or nothing at all. i don't listen to much music.

Total Eclipse of the Heart. . .LOL! Totally like hilarious, man!

Love the list, I'll have to list some songs next month! Love this hop each month!

Oh this list brings back memories. The other day in the car Sweet dreams came on the radio, I cranked it up and sang the whole thing, all the while my girls were staring at me and at the end said that was the weirdest song they've ever heard!! ha!

Oh, 80s music, how I love you!!

The other day in the car a Journey song came on the iPod and one of the kids said, "Wow! This song has great piano AND great rock guitar. I like this!"

I may have shed a tear.

I love you because of this list!!!
And that flow chart cracks me up!

I too had to sneak my music into the house because if it wasn't Keith Green or Amy Grant (old school) it was garbage.....I had a Def Leopard Pyromania tape that I hid in my pillow case.

And the story about Sarah and her Bon Jovi shirt in church cracks me up! A couple of weeks ago I looked over at my son Cooper during church and realized that he had on his policeman costume and a cape. I had no idea because he had on snowpants and his coat when we left the house! said...

I totally don't have time for my 10 on the 10th but I DO have to comment on the Madonna tapes hidden as DeGarmo and Key music! That is hilarious!

I love it!! I love every one of those songs. 80's music rocks!

Sweet Mer, I do not know how I linked up to Tim Hawkins, but I did. Anyway...can you fix it?

LURVE the flow chart, and I really thought the Addicted to Love video was so hot. I know... And Prince. I don't care what he called himself or didn't call himself--he wrote and sang great music.

I may have gotten to go to a George Michael concert. Before, you know, the arrest and all.

Great list - minus the Robert Palmer song. :-) I miss the 80's radio station we used to have. I love me some 70's music, too, though.

Oh - gotta love that Robert Plant video...and of course I never wished I could be one of those girls dancing behind him- ha! We had 80's weekend on a local radio station and it's lots of fun to listen.

I kinda can't believe that I knew so many of those songs... and I really can't believe I spaced about this months' 10 on the 10th, I was so wanting to do one every month. I may still post even though it's not the 10th anymore (obviously) just so that I feel better about myself :)

I know every word of every song you listed. 80s music plays like a soundtrack in my head.

Which may explain why, even after taking great pains to write and then schedule a rare weekend post, I forgot to link it. Oh well, here it is now!

I got in trouble at dear old OBU for blasting "Hungry Eyes" for all of Flippen-Perrin to hear my freshman year.

Love me some 80s.

You picked 10 of my favorite songs....each one brought back of flood of memories....

Gotta go find an 80's station now.

You gotta be kidding me. Everything you just said, is MY favorite thing to do, every day!

Sorry I'm channeling Nacho today.:) But it's true anyway. LOVE all those songs and SO MANY MORE from the 80's.

I'm especially fond of Total Eclipse since my dear college buddy and I would go roller skating and skate to the middle of the rink and coreograph to this song....ah, the memories.

Being slightly younger than you, growing up in a strict home, AND going to school with mostly country music fans means I only know about half of your list. But I feel sure if you hummed a few lines from the ones I don't recognize I could join in... it's the titles and artists that I can never remember. :)

Very cool list!! I could hear each of them in my mind as I read your! Brings back way too many memories. Found you from Carrie's blog (watibg). Have a great week!

I am totally laughing right now, because I was reading my sister's comment (I didn't see her name) nodding my head in agreement- except I always played my dad'd Barry Manilow album quite loudly downstairs, and her radio quietly upstairs- thinking how similar our parents must be.

Then I read the part about the costume and thought, "Hey! That sounds like Trish!" My eyes flew to the name and yes, indead, our parents were not only similar, but exactly the same!!!

I'm a dork!

Our parents must have gone to the same "Rock music is from the devil" conference. I wasn't allowed non-christian music either. They should have realized it fostered rebellion forcing me to hide it behind her back like that!
I know and love all those 80s tunes. Chicago and Peter Gabriel albums are my best.
