Dreamin'...

After dinner tonight, we sat around the table sharing things we hoped to do this summer. I grabbed a Sharpie and (surprise!) made a list. Thought I'd share some of the things we're dreamin' about.

  • Six Flags
  • Playdates
  • The new Harry Potter movie
  • Ice cream at The Rock House
  • Having a lemonade stand
  • Sleepovers
  • Seeing a moose (doubtful, but cool!)
  • Summer reading program at the library
  • Going to a Rockies game
  • Having time to scrapbook
  • Going to the North Pole and NOT having to wear a winter coat! (It's our tradition to go in December but evidently that's not working for one of my kids, huh?)
  • Going to Durango with John's parents and his brother's family!!! (With side trips to Silverton, Mesa Verde National Park, and possibly Ouray, CO).
  • Vacation Bible School at our church
  • Getting a trampoline (yep, I think they've worn us down)
  • Afternoon happy hour trips to Sonic
  • 4th of July
  • Estes Park!
  • Getting a new lamp for my room (Sarah)
  • Camping! Even if it's just in the backyard! (We do this a lot actually)
  • Reading!
  • Family hikes and picnics
  • Landscaping our backyard! (Personally, I'm super happy about this one).

Whew! I think it's a great list...and I'm THRILLED that our summer vacation officially begins tomorrow afternoon.

Happy summer, friends! Anything fun on your dreamin' list?

My dreamin' list is entirely consumed by the house we are buying next month. All sorts of projects so that we can hopefully move in by September and my mind is already fast forwarding to next year when I can hopefully get some geese...and the year after when I can hopefully get some goats.

What a great list!

Tell you what, I'll keep my eyes out for the moose and will e-mail pictures if I see one since it's more likely that we'd actually see one!

Please enjoy a cherry dr. pepper w/ xtra ice at happy hour for me!

Our trampoline was a fantastic purchase and we were sad to not be able to take it with us. I would recommend that you plan on buying a mid-line or better (not bottome of line) just because your kids are bigger than mine were. We bought a less expensive and it was great for my kid's age, but they would have grown out of it by the time they wre pre-teens.

I love this! I'm reading a book (VERY light fiction) called "Twenty Wishes" that's sort of the same premise.
I think lists put our thoughts into a conceivable form. When the dog days of summer are looming large..here that is about late July...it's nice to look at the list and remember something we really wanted to do!
P.S. We saw MANY MANY moose near Winter Park last 4th of July.
I'm at one kid out of school...one to go. It can't happen fast enough.

Hi Meredith! Just wanted to tell you that I really enjoy your blog and look forward to reading it every morning before my 4, 7 and 9 year olds wake up. I found you through Joanne at the Simple Wife. I also enjoy a few friends of yours who are doing the revival bible study and am following along. Thank you for being "real" and not sugar coating anything. Who needs that??? We too have done a summer fun things to do list. We are going to try camping in our backyard too! Hope you have a really great summer!

I hoping for some daytrips this summer - the girls are fascinated with pandas and I really want to try and get to Memphis to see them before August. And of course, there will be reading, sprinklers in the backyard and lots of popsicles. :)

I need to make a list so we don't just while away the hours. Though there will definitely be a little bit of that going on.

This summer (well, the six weeks until our year-round school starts up again) we've got VBS, Myrtle Beach, the boys' 10th birthday at the LEGO store - they wore me down - and hopefully hopefully, a quick 3,000 mile round trip out to see my parents in OK. Not sure how I'm going to fit that in, but I'd love to do it.

A fellow list mama! :)

All of that sounds fun!

We may go to St. Louis for a short trip, and the kids have summer camps planned. Christian does VBS, and I'm sure lots of time will be spent in the pool in our back yard!

Don't tell anyone, but we were just considering getting a trampoline for David's 13th b'day. Of course J can use it, too, but he's the one who is frightening me by how hard he swings on our rainbow swing. Time for a new venue, I think.

Great list.

I am old. For I remember when 6 Flags was Elitch's, and when Elitch's was in it's old Lakewood location.

Looking forward to our July 4th, too.

Happy Summer, Mer!

Hi Mer... Love your blog and your list. Still getting used to "the new normal" since Mom died and haven't yet detached myself from routine so dreaming about some new options would probaby work wonderds for me.

I'm ordering a trampoline today! It was the compromise since we're not taking a true family vacation this year.

Sounds like a great list!

Awesome idea! We usually just wing it, but this idea seems much better. We may have a dreaming session this weekend and I'll get back to ya on what our summer dreams are....

I'm kinda sad that visiting NE Arkansas isn't on your list ;)

This is a great idea, Meredith. I'll bet just sitting around the table dreamin' was a fun time all in itself.

I totall want to do this now...even, though, you've managed to get the song "California Dreamin" by the Mamas and the Papas in my head...

-camping w/ friends
-zoo
-maybe california to see family
-children's museum (they have a GINORMOUS outdoor play structure!)
-lots of playing in the backyard which will include lots of water I'm sure
-I'm sure my sun would add a slip n slide to that (cause that's what everyone wants to see is me throw/flop my way down yellow, slick plastic...)
-evening walks as a family
-BBQin' w/ family and friends
-VBS
-Day Camp for Will
-Swim lessons

Your list sounds wonderful too!!

Mer - I love this idea. I think we will sit around the dinner table tonight for some dreamin'. Of course, getting a job and moving to a new local will be at the top. :) But, I don't want to waste our summer waiting.

1: Take me to Estes Park with you!!!

2: Be sure to pee before you get on said trampoline. Believe me, over the age of 18 it's necessary.

3: I'll add an AMEN to Harry Potter. I CANNOT WAIT!!!

I like the simplicity of the things your kids are dreaming of. I think I'll ask my kids this question, too- sharpie in hand.

Just another wonderful idea from you that I am going to steal for my own someday :)!

I hope your summer is all that you and your kiddos are hoping it to be!

I love your list!

I wish I could give you our trampoline. It's been used about a dozen times. Even has the safety cage on it. If you wanna drive down you're welcome to it! :)
