Lots of Happy (and Silly) Stuff...

I gotta be honest. I woke up yesterday wondering if it was going to be a happy day.

The temp was a whopping 3 degrees, Jack-the-Beagle pooped on the stairs (what?), and Abbey threw a melodramatic fit when I told her she wasn't leaving the house without a hat and gloves. And that was after the meltdown she had when I told her that the windbreaker wasn't an option. Oh my. And did I mention my garage door won't open (consistently)? And that it was snowing? Yeah, Mondays can be a bit rough.

But things started perking up.

I got my hair cut which always makes me happy. There's a reason it's called hairapy.
(My stylist, Rachel, is THE BEST!)

And after my haircut, I ran by Jamie's house to pick up the loot she bought for me at Trader Joe's while she was in New Mexico last week. Jack is happy again now that he has his favorite peanut butter treats. (Thanks, Jamie!) I got home and had a phone conversation with GRETCHEN...one of my most favorite bloggers on the planet. It was so great talking with her...I've put that off for too long. Seriously, she's so funny and so real and I just want her to live in Colorado again and be one of my best friends! (Thanks, Gretchen...the pleasure was all mine!)

I also turned in all of our Brownie troop's cookie order forms. Our troop sold almost 900 boxes! I am very glad to be finished with that for a couple of weeks. The real fun will begin when the cookies come in.

I made one of my favorite dinners last night. Southwestern Stir-Fry. So yummy, and pretty healthy too.
Can I just say again that it was COLD here yesterday. We reached 15 degrees for our high but it started dropping around 4pm and by the time John got home from work it was 6 degrees.

I couldn't get warm so I put on my pjs and my down booties. Both make me happy!

John gave me these booties a couple of years ago for Christmas, and while they look completely ridiculous (think moon boots) they are the warmest things ever. My feet stay nice and toasty.
A couple of you have asked if I got the slanket that I wanted for Christmas. Well, no, I didn't. Not because my husband wasn't willing to buy it for me. He tried. Very hard. They were out of stock before Christmas. When they were available again, I talked him out of buying one because I couldn't justify spending $45 on a blanket.

Last night I had a flash of brilliance (coupled with an effort to stay warm) and I MADE MY OWN SLANKET. Oh yes, I did.

I cut a big slit in one of our dozen fleece blankets and made myself a big ole fleece poncho sl-anket. I even made John take a picture, but it's so tacky that I can't bring myself to post it. You'll have to trust me...even though it's hideous, it's warm. Plus, my hands are free to type and to talk on the phone and to change the channel and everything.

I talk to friends all the time who tell me that the reason they don't have a blog is because they don't have anything interesting to write about. I hope they're reading this post so that they can see that obviously, neither do I!

*That 3 degrees yesterday was cold, but it was even colder this morning. Actual temp when I woke up was -8. Brrrrrrrrrrrr.

I, too, have toyed with ordering the slanket. I am forever cold - you will find me with a blanket over my lap in the smack middle of July.

And the southwest stir fry looks good and I think I have the ingredients.

And the hair is great (but I was more fascinated by the pretty gray sweater and found myself thinking that not a lot of people can pull off gray, but you, my friend, can.

OK, I am totally breaking my own rule. As you can see I am typing away at 12:48....

I do have a good excuse. But i refuse to use it...

...I might need it later.

ANYWAY, your hair looks fab. As always.

And your post makes me feel better about the ugly, wet, cold weather we are having...but compared to you its warm. So I won't complain!

Happy Tuesday!

Yes, it is cold! My nose is burning from the dry-ness.

If you have a chance this week, can you call me? I sure would appreciate it!

Stay warm and safe today, Mer.
Love,
Holly

Love the haircut. No one ever came here to sell me girl scout cookies this year. I was upset...I seriously love Thin Mints.

Love your hair! Hairapy indeed!

And good for you for taking matters into your own hands and making your own slanket! I need to do that. We have at least 50 fleece blankets around here. Surely one of them could stand to reinvent itself!

I love, love, love Trader Joe's. We BEG them every time we go to Phoenix, which isn't too often, to open one here in Flagstaff.
I didn't know they were in NM too. I'll have to look up the address and stop by when we head thru Albuquerque for CO,. Maybe if we really beg, they'll get them in CS, wouldn't that be great!
My husband spoke to his mom and it was -3 in Fowler (30 E. of Pueblo). That's something we'll really have to get used to again!
No, you're not boring at all!

So excited you got to talk to Gretchen I've grown to love her lots and that's extra special! I'm still waiting for your fam to come to Atlanta for some reason! :)

Anyway, I've yet to find any Girl Scout cookies but they usually get out in front of Wal-Mart eventually...sooo I guess I'm waiting until then!

Talk about cold... Wow -8 is cold and then some. Hoping to come to CO sooner rather than later but think I'll opt for spring or summer.

glad to hear you have the whole girl drama going on too.
That's a gorgeous picture of you!
I'm so making that stir fry! i have just about everything on hand, yum looks delish!
I have a pair of moon boot slippers similar to that! now i wish i would have brought them today!
that is so wrong, we HAVE to see a picture of the slanket! now i want one!

I have to disagree, my friend. The pleasure was all MINE. :)

Your booties kill me. And some how you've got to find a way to post your Mslankey. You need to teach Jack to lay on top of your feet. And i know i just used lay in a lie context. Don't care. :) I"m a language rebel like that.

Sorry about the chill--it's in the 30s here, and the humidity makes it hard to get warm; but nothin' like the minuses.

Oh...almost forgot! Lurve your hair. Rachel is awesome, indeed. I really like the inverted bob. Wish I could wear it. I'll just live through you, I guess.

Love, love love your hair! And the boots....they look warm but they make me sweat to look at them right now. It's about 900 degrees and 200% humidity here right now. Just kidding.....it's probably only in the 80's but the humidity makes it feel steamy. Then I had to go and bake something in the kitchen. Ugh. Anyway, just sit and pretend you are in my kitchen and you feel warmer!

Glad you are enjoying your TJ's loot...your welcome!

When I saw the Trader Jo's mentioned, I immediately thought of your dog :)!

Please tell me where you got those moon boots? I NEED those!!! Also, I might be making my own slanket too. Brilliant I tell you :)!

Your hair looks great! You are so pretty! I have never been to Trader Joes but I really want to go. They have one in ATL. I need me some of those booties. My feet stay cold but I hate wearing socks.

Good phone calls always perk me up. I tend to get really energized by people!

Glad you had a good day.

Love the hair (and your sweater too - so cute!).

You don't have Trader Joes in CO? I love that place...if you ever want me to get you anything and mail it to you let me know! :)

Your hair looks great -- I love that cut. Finding a great hairstylist is akin to finding gold. Nothing beats it. :)

The stir-fry looks great. I'm definitely going to have to try that one.

I was just thinking of you and your slanket the other day! I was having lunch with my four-year-old. He has a "dankie" (his security blanket) that he takes everywhere. He tells me, "Mom. Did you know there's a dankie with arm holes in it?!? I saw it on TV." He was amazed. You could see he was considering possibly making an upgrade. :)
